Union Powers Past Trevecca 4-1

NASHVILLE – Diego Santos scored a pair of goals as Union University (2-0) powered by Trevecca Nazarene (0-1-1) 4-1 Saturday night in a non-conference men's soccer match at the TNU Soccer Complex.

 

Santos scored in the seventh and 61st minutes as the Bulldogs won their second consecutive match to start the year.

 

Following Santos' goal in the seventh minute, Caleb Mills got in the action with a shot to the left corner pushing the Bulldogs lead to 2-0.

 

In the 24th minute, Matthew Esquivel nearly got Trevecca on the board but his shot attempt was saved my Matt Kesler.

 

Matt Raines came close to cutting the 2-0 deficit as well in the 44th minute but a save by the right post by Kesler negated the scoring chance.

 

Kesler recorded eight saves on the night.

 

The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 3-0 as Santos delivered again, this time into the left corner passed the diving arms of Trojans goalie Braydon Brown.

 

Trevecca's lone goal came as Rob Ward converted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute following a hand ball in the box by Union.

 

Alex Pratt added the final goal of the match in the 82nd minute extending Union's lead to 4-1.

 

Brown recorded two saves in the loss for TNU.

 

As a team, Trevecca out-shot Union 21-11 while the Bulldogs held a slim 2-1 lead in corner kicks.

 

The Trojans will look for their first win of the season Sept. 10 as they travel to Asbury University (1-1-0) for a 6 p.m. match.
