Box Score NASHVILLE – Diego Gonzalez scored twice in the second half to lift Shorter University (6-2-2) to a 3-1 win over Trevecca Nazarene University (5-5-1) Tuesday night in a non-conference men's soccer match at the TNU Soccer Complex.

Gonzalez gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead it would never relinquish in the 52nd minute as his free kick bounced passed TNU goalie Braydon Brown to the left corner of the net.

Shorter took the first lead of the match in the 16th minute as Robert Ochieng headed in a perfectly placed corner kick from Irvin Espinal into the left corner.

Trevecca would respond just three minutes later with Connor Inman delivering the equalizer. After Jeremiah Wright's shot was deflected by Hawks goalkeeper Nicolas Ferrigno, Inman would tap in from five yards out to tie the match at 1.

Baylor McKay nearly gave Trevecca the lead in the 38th minute as a pass into the box was shot but went high above the post.

In the second half, after Gonzalez's first goal, he would add another in the 58th minute scoring on another free kick this time from outside the right box.

TNU nearly cut the deficit to 3-2 as Richie Reichenberger got past the Hawks defense and fired a shot, but the sideline referee drew his flag for offsides. Reichenberger added a header in the 89th minute but the shot was saved by Ferrigno.

Ferrigno recorded seven saves for the Hawks.

Trevecca out-shot Shorter 14-13 and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Trojans' next match comes Oct. 10 as they host Ohio Valley University (0-10, 0-3 G-MAC) at 7:00 p.m. in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest.
