Men's Soccer | Two Second Period King Goals Edges Trevecca

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – King University (4-9-2) turned two Trevecca Nazarene University (8-8-1) miscues into two goals Tuesday night to claim a 2-1 victory in a non-conference men's soccer match at the TNU Soccer Complex.

In the 66th minute, a sprinting Ryan Murphy got a lucky break as a header from the Trojan defense came right to him and he finished with a shot to the left corner.

Chris Hicks extended the Tornado lead to 2-0 in the 72nd minute. The Trojan defense whiffed on clearing a loose ball around the box and Hicks capitalized.

Trevecca pulled the match to within a goal in the 76th minute as Jonathan Baskin dribbled along the right side and deflected a shot off the left post into the back of the net.

The Trojans had one more look to tie the match in the 82nd minute but Connor Inman's attempt sailed wide.

Early in the first half, TNU looked poised to take a lead as Jeremiah Wright and Taylor Collins had shots on-goal. However, King goalie Kari Sveinsson saved Wright's header and deflected Collins' shot over the top crossbar.

Sveinsson had four saves on the night while Braydon Brown denied two shots for the Trojans.

Trevecca out-shot King 9-8 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The regular season is now complete for Trevecca. They'll wait to see who they'll play Nov. 7 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championships.
