Lantrip Hits Two HR in Split with No. 21 RedHawks

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Trojan softball team (25-8, 5-1 TranSouth) split a doubleheader with NAIA #21 Martin Methodist (26-9, 3-3 TranSouth), losing the opener 4-2 and winning game two 4-1.

With 25 wins this season, Trevecca has now won at least 25 games in nine of the last 10 years. Prior to this stretch no Trevecca team had won 25 games in a season.

Kelsey Lantrip hit a home run in each of the games. Lantrip now the fourth Trojan was at least eight home runs this season. Lantrip, Breanna Zeis, and Anais Puertas all have eight home runs. Monica West has nine. Megan Hemmingsen is two back with six home runs.

In game one, the Trojans scored a run in the second and in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. The RedHawks tied the game with two unearned runs in the fourth and then won the game with two runs in the top of the seventh.

The Trojans dodged trouble all day as MMC left 15 runners on base during the game. Trevecca also wasted opportunities with 10 runners left on base. Trevecca had six hits and two errors while Martin had 12 hits and two errors.

Riley Mashburn (13-4) took the loss despite giving up just two earned runs. Mashburn allowed 10 hits, four runs, five walks, and struck out one RedHawk. Katlin White (14-2) was the winner after allowing seven hits, two runs, four walks, and striking out seven.

Kelsey Lantrip was 1-3 with a solo home run, a run, an RBI, and a walk. Lauren Baker was 1-1 with a double, RBI, and a walk.

In the second game, each team scored a run in their half of the third inning. The score remained the same until the Trojans scored what would be the winning runs, with two runs in the fifth. Trevecca added a security run in the sixth, but it wasn't needed as the Trojans won 4-1.

Trevecca had eight hits and two errors, while Martin had four hits an no errors. Martin left another six runners on base, while Trevecca left five.

Lantrip struck again with a two-run home run. The junior shortstop was 1-2 with a run scored and two RBI. Karli Rush was 2-3 with a run scored and a double. Anais Puertas was 2-3 with two runs scored.  

Lauren Baker (12-4) picked up the win with seven innings of work. Baker allowed four hits, one run, one walk, and struck out three. Chrissy Worth (12-7) took the loss allowing four this, four runs, a walk while striking out two Trojans.

Trevecca travels to Tennessee Wesleyan College (9-15) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, April 2nd.
