At Damascus High School, Gruber was a two-time all-county selection being named the offensive MVP during her sophomore season ... as a senior Gruber was selected to participate in the all-star game for Damascus ... the outside hitter performed well in the classroom earning a distinguished scholar award as a freshman, sophomore and junior ... Gruber was a member of the National English Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honors Society, and National Honors Society.
