Trevecca Nazarene University

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – For the Labor Day Weekend, the Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team headed south for another three match weekend. The Trojans opened their time at the University of Alabama-Huntsville Invitational with a pair of matches on Friday, and the story of the Trojans' day was a return home to face some old friends for senior Katilyn Grant. 

 

Trevecca (2-3) split their two matches on the day, taking a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-21) loss against the Harding University (Ark.) Lady Bisons (4-1) before they bounced back against Grant's former team in Mars Hill (N.C.) to take the sweep, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-18). 

 

  

Trevecca is now 0-3 all-time against Harding, while the meeting with Mars Hill was the first meeting in the history of the two schools. Three of the four matches that Trevecca has played against the two teams have taken place in Huntsville, with only a single match at Harding as the exception. 

  

  

Trevecca started the match slowly, as they dropped seven of the first nine points in the match. A 4-1 spurt helped the Trojans pull to within three at 10-7, but Harding answered with five straight points moments later, as the Lady Bisons opened a 16-8 lead. Trevecca only scored consecutive points twice more in the set  - and in both cases the Trojans only scored two straight points - as Harding cruised to the 25-15 set win. 

 

Harding also opened the second set by taking the lead, this time a 5-2 edge. Trevecca, though, kept things close, and the Trojans got a kill from Grant - the Alabama-native - to cap a 6-3 stretch and draw the Trojans level at 10-10. Harding answered with four straight points to take a 14-10 lead, and after a kill from Grant and two from Emma Schnitzer made it 15-13 Harding, the Lady Bisons opened a 22-14 lead with a 7-1 run that led to a 25-16 set win for Harding. 

 

With the Trojans trailing 5-2 early in the third set, the Trojans surged in front for their first lead of the match. A service error from Harding opened the door for the Trojans to rattle off six straight points - highlighted by a pair of kills from Grant, one from Kayla Bullard, and an ace from Cailyn Kyes - to take an 8-5 lead. Harding quickly tied things at eight apiece, and despite another kill from Grant that put Trevecca up 10-9, the Lady Bisons put together a 7-1 run to take the lead 16-11. Bullard and Grant combined for three more kills late in the set to pull Trevecca back within three at 19-16, and Grant added two more as a part of a 4-0 stretch that closed the gap to 21-20, but Harding scored four of the final five points of the match to take the set 25-21 and the match 3-0. 

 

• Katilyn Grant and Kayla Bullard paced the Trojans' offense with eight kills each in the match, Emma Schnitzer added six, and Jordan Hunt notched four kills of her own.  

• Brynne Krangnes dished out 16 assists in the match, and she added eight digs, and a kill.   

• Lilly Van Bebber was the only Trojan to reach double figures in digs, as she recorded 18.   

 

  

Trevecca started slowly in the first set of the second match, as the Trojans again fell into an early 7-2 hole. Grant notched her second kill of the match to stem the tide, and that led to three straight Trevecca points to help the Trojans gain their footing. After two Mars Hill points pushed the Lions' lead to 9-5, Trevecca scored four straight points to tie things up at 9-9. Mars Hill reclaimed the lead and pushed it out to three points at 13-10 and 14-11 before Trevecca rallied to tie things again at 14 all. Trevecca pulled ahead 19-17 as a part of a 3-0 run that featured a kill and an ace from Schnitzer, and Trevecca held on to win the set 25-22. 

 

Mars Hill jumped out quickly again in the second set, this time taking a 5-1 lead, but Trevecca began whittling away at the margin. Grant had kills for Trevecca's first three points in the frame, and with the Trojans trailing 11-5, Grant, Bullard, and Megan Ellis recorded kills along with an ace from Schnitzer pulled Trevecca to within three at 12-9. Mars Hill stretched the lead out to 20-16 late, but the Trojans ran off six straight points to take the 22-20 lead, and Trevecca took the set 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  

 

In the third stanza, the Trojans took the lead early. Trevecca dropped the first two points, but then scored seven in a row to take the 7-3 lead. Moments later, a 6-0 run that included a pair of aces from Brynne Krangnes helped Trevecca increase their lead to 14-5. As the set wore on, Mars Hill twice closed the gap to four points, but they were unable to get closer, and Trevecca cruised in with the set win, 25-18, to take the match in three sets.  

 

• Katilyn Grant reached double figures in kills for the second time in 2026 with a season-high 14. Emma Schnitzer added 10 of her own, Kayla Bullard scored eight, and Jordan Hunt added seven.  

• Sophomore transfer Brynne Krengnes eclipsed the 30-assist plateau for the second time in a Trojan uniform, this time with 35 - two off her season-high that came against Lincoln Memorial.   

• Lilly Van Bebber was again the only Trojan to reach double figures in digs, as she recorded 12, while Bullard and Krangnes chipped in six apiece.   

• Trevecca posted team totals of eight blocks and nine service aces in the match. Grant participated in five blocks, Megan Ellis was a part of four stuffs, Schnitzer served four aces, and Krangnes added three aces as well.  

  

Trevecca will wrap up the weekend with a single match on Saturday when they take on future Gulf South Conference foe Spring Hill College (0-4) at 10 a.m.
