NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University junior Joshua Novotny has been named the Gulf South Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week presented by Athletic Solutions for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026.
Novotny earned the honor after clocking 25:18.47 over 8,000 meters at Saturday's Michael Pretorius Invitational, finishing fifth among 36 runners and leading the Trojans to second place at Andrew Jackson's The Hermitage Cross Country Course.
The performance was the second-fastest 8K of his career and ranks eighth on Trevecca's all-time 8K performance list, giving Novotny two of the eight fastest marks in program history.
Novotny shaved one minute, 33.33 seconds off his season-opening time at the Southern Showcase on Sept. 18. He led Trevecca in that race as well, finishing 23rd among 239 runners in 26:51.8 at John Hunt Cross Country Park in Huntsville, Alabama.
His effort at The Hermitage put him just 11.67 seconds off his career-best 25:06.8, recorded at the 2025 GSC Championships. That personal best ranks fourth on Trevecca's all-time performance list and makes him the second-fastest 8K runner in program history.
Trevecca scored 52 points in the five-team meet, edging Austin Peay by two points for second behind Lipscomb. Tennessee State and Fisk completed the field.
The meet marked the first collegiate cross country competition at The Hermitage and the first 8K race contested on the property.
