Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans End Dominant Home stand with Sweep of KWU

NASHVILLE – It is hard to imagine the four-match homestand the Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team wrapped up on Tuesday evening going any better than it did. Trevecca won all four matches - including a trio of Gulf South Conference wins - as they are now within a single win of getting back to .500 after a tough start to the season.

Trevecca (7-8) took down the Kentucky Wesleyan University Panthers (3-12) 3-0 in their final non-conference match of the season. The Trojans finished the homestand 4-0, and they won 12 sets while dropping only 3.

SERIES HISTORY

The win marked the seventh win for the Trojans in the last eight meetings dating back to March 5, 2021. Trevecca now holds the all-time series lead at 14-12.

MATCH RECAP

Kentucky Wesleyan opened the night by taking five of the first six points. Katilyn Grant smashed a kill that helped to shift the momentum in the match back to the Trojans, as Trevecca scored the next three points in the set to pull within one at 5-4, and a later pair of kills from Emma Schnitzer gave the Trojans their first lead of the evening at 8-7. Isabella Sherrod notched a trio of scoring swings to help the Trojans open their lead to 12-10, and the margin swelled to four on another Sherrod kill that made it 17-13. KWC answered with a 5-1 run to tie the score at 18 apiece, but in the closing moments of the set, Grant took control with three more kills and a block - which also featured Brynne Krangnes - as the Trojans took the set 25-22.

Trevecca took four of the first five points in the second stanza, and the Trojans remained aggressive on the offensive side. That aggressiveness, though, kept KWU close early, as the Panthers scored four of their first five points in the set off of Trevecca miscues. Trevecca opened up an 11-5 lead before KWU recorded their second kill of the set, but the Panthers battled back to close the gap to a single point at the technical timeout. Trevecca scored three of the first four points out of the timeout, and the Trojans took set two 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

KWU mounted a last gasp effort early in set three. The Panthers won five of the first eight points, and six of the first 10, but with the Panthers leading 6-4, the Trojans answered and took control. Trevecca tallied 10 of the next 11 points, and the Trojans built a 19-11 lead. A service error gave KWU their last point of the match, but Sherrod and Grant each notched a pair of kills as a part of a match-ending 6-0 run and Trevecca took the set 25-12 and the match 3-0.

TROJAN HIGHLIGHTS

  • Katilyn Grant shined extremely brightly for the Trojans in the match. The senior from Alabaster, Alabama led the Trojans with 17 kills, and she had just one error and took only 23 attempts, which put her attack percentage and an incredible .696. Isabella Sherrod also reachedd double figures with 12 kills, and she narrowly missed a double-double with nine digs.

  • Brynne Krangnes had her fourth straight double-double with 37 assists and a dozen digs. She also had an ace, a block, and four kills.

  • Kayla Bullard and Lilly Vanbebber each added 12 digs in the match.

  • Zoie Elrod added a pair of service aces to lead the Trojans on the service line.
