NASHVILLE — Slow starts have been a key part of the story early in 2026 for the Trevecca Nazarene University women's soccer team. That storyline continued on Saturday, as Trevecca stumbled in their home opener in the Gulf South Conference 

 

Trevecca (3-3-1, 1-2-0 GSC) allowed a goal in the 10th minute, as Mississippi Christian University (4-2-1, 1-1-1 GSC) took a 2-0 lead in the opening half on their way to the win, 3-0. 

The meeting was just the third all-time between the Trojans and the Choctaws. Trevecca won the first time the teams met, which came in Nashville in 2024, but since then, the Choctaws have won both meetings - one on each campus - to take the lead in the series, 2-1. 

  

For the fourth time in their first seven contests, the Trojans conceded early. A turnover off of a throw-in saw MCU's Paula Catalan play a ball into space for Abby Badurak who went in on a breakaway. Badurak touched the ball into position and slotted home the match's opening goal in the 10th minute to put MCU up 1-0. In the 39th minute, MCU's Keiran Goodman took a free kick from distance and looped the ball into the box. Parker St. Amant rose into the air and headed the ball home to put MCU up 2-0, which was the margin at intermission. 

 

MCU continued to control possession in the second half, and in the 69th minute, they capped off the offense of the match. Olivia Graham found Kerri O'Hara who put the ball in the net for the goal, and MCU closed out the win, 3-0.

Things do not get any easier for the Trojans, as their next match comes against the GSC's preseason favorites. Trevecca will welcome long-time nemesis and 10th-ranked Lee University (4-0-1, 2-0 GSC). Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
