Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Open Gulf South Play with Sweep at AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – There is a lot to be said in sports for playing a difficult pre-conference schedule. The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team did just that this year, and on Friday evening, the move paid dividends.

Trevecca (3-7, 1-0 GSC) opened their 2026 conference slate on the road at Auburn University Montgomery (2-9, 0-1 GSC), and the Trojans' offense found a rhythm early. Trevecca attacked the ball at a .347 clip in the match, and the Trojans rode that to the 3-0 win.

SERIES HISTORY

The Trojans now lead the series with the Warhawks 4-1 in the rally scoring era. Trevecca is now 2-1 in that span in Montgomery, including road wins the last two seasons over AUM.

MATCH RECAP

Trevecca took the first seven points of the evening. Zoie Elrod opened the match with the serve, and in the run, she served a trio of aces. Trevecca used a later 5-0 run highlighted by two kills from Emma Schnitzer and single kills from Brynne Krangnes and Jordan Hunt to open a 13-2 lead. One final 5-0 spurt for Trevecca that featured a pair of kills from Megan Ellis stretched the lead to 19-5, and the Trojans cruised in with the set win, 25-13.

The second set was much more evenly played. The teams split the first 20 points evenly, and the match remained tied at 15-15. Ellis notched another kill to start a Trojans' 6-1 run, and that provided Trevecca with just enough breathing room as they took the set 25-21.

AUM took an early 7-5 lead in the third set, but the Trojans answered with a 9-1 run to take the advantage back. Katilyn Grant had three kills as a part of that spurt. AUM hung close into the late stages of the stanza, but a kill from Schnitzer put Trevecca up 19-14 and that ignited a 7-2 run that ended the match with a 25-16 set win and a 3-0 match victory.

TROJAN HIGHLIGHTS

  • Katilyn Grant hit the ball at a .476 clip with a team-leading 14 kills. Megan Ellis added nine scoring shots and hit .533, and Shitzer chipped in nine kills with an attack percentage of .368
  • Brynne Krangnes dished up a season-high 35 assists.
  •  Lilly Vanbebber posted 15 digs in the match for the Trojans, leading the Trevecca back line, and Zoie Elrod recorded five kills and four service aces.
