Trevecca Men's Soccer | Trojans Earn Hard-Fought Draw, Point, on the Road at No. 20 UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Wednesday evening provided an early season test for the surprising Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer team. The Trojans met up with the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers in a battle of unbeatens, and the teams brought a combined record of 8-0-1 into the match. The game marked the second time this season the Trojans faced a ranked opponent as well, as the Chargers carried a ranking of No. 20 into the tilt.

Trevecca (4-0-2, 0-0-2 GSC) scored after halftime for the ninth time this season - the Trojans have scored at least one second half marker in each of their six matches on the season - as they came from behind to earn a draw at the 20th-ranked Chargers (4-0-1, 1-0-1 GSC), 1-1.

THE SERIES
Trevecca is now 5-2-3 all-time against UAH. The Trojans are unbeaten in the last three meetings, dating back to a 2-0 win in Huntsville in 2024, and they are now 3-1-1 all-time in Huntsville.

THE MATCH
The teams battled back-and-forth in the first half, but it was UAH who scratched onto the scoresheet. The Chargers took advantage of a turnover from the Trevecca defense in the center circle in the seventh minute that sent Alejandro Tocino Vidal in from the halfway line unopposed. Tocino Vidal chipped the ball over Trevecca goalkeeper Hunter Walker and kept it just under the crossbar to put the Chargers up 1-0.

Trevecca had their chances in the opening half, but they were unable to convert them. In the 29th minute, Joe Coyle headed a shot off the crossbar from a corner kick chance and later in the half, the Trojans had a goal called back on an offside. At the break, Trevecca had carried the play for long stretches of the action, but it was UAH that held the 1-0 lead.

The Trojans, though, continued to show second half-resilience, and in the 58th minute, Coyle got a second chance. The junior from Liverpool converted a loose ball in the box into a goal as he put it in the top right corner of the goal for his first of the season to square the match at 1-1.

The Trojans had several chances in the ensuing moments. Judah Jones took a pair of shots, Haden Brown missed wide to the left, and Coyle was turned aside by UAH's Sonny Wright in goal in the 74th minute. UAH had three chances late, but only one of those was on target and Walker was up to the task. Trevecca's Chris Douglas nearly had a break away in the dying seconds, but the UAH defense broke up the play and the match ended 1-1.
