NASHVILLE — It was another scorcher in Music City on Sunday as the Trevecca Nazarene University women's soccer team concluded their season opening weekend. After rallying to salvage a draw on Thursday night, the Trojans showed great defensive tenacity as they battled their way to a clean sheet on Sunday under the hot late-summer sun.
Trevecca (1-0-1) jumped in front in the 22nd minute, and despite being out-shot 18-6 in the match, the Trojans held on for a 1-0 win over the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars (1-1).
THE SERIES
The match was the second all-time meeting between the two teams, joining a 3-2 Trevecca win from September 1, 2022. Sunday's tilt marked the first time the squads met in Nashville.
THE MATCH
UIS immediately tested the Trojan defense, as the Prairie Stars had the first four shots of the match. Penelope Charroin made a save on the first UIS chance of the match, and another chance for the Prairie Stars was blocked in the sixth minute.
After two more shots from UIS, Trevecca got onto the shot chart in the 13th minute with a pair of opportunities from Anna Farrell. The senior from Cypress, Texas rang her first shot off the left post, and seconds later, she had another chance that was turned away by UIS goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich.
The Prairie Stars continued to apply pressure, but in the 22nd minute, a Trevecca counter attack paid dividends. Evvy Hainline sent a long ball into space that found the feet of Kylie Bradshaw and sent her in 1-v-1 with Yurevich. Bradshaw chipped the ball into the top of the net to put Trevecca in front for the first time in 2026.
Both teams went to the bench right after the goal, and UIS continued applying pressure. The Prairie Stars had the final five shots of the opening half, though none came in the final 15 minutes of the period. Late in the half, UIS had possession on the right wing side and sent the ball into the middle, where Charroin collided with an attacking player and had to leave the match.
Trevecca's Mary Bauchou entered in goal to replace Charroin, and played the remainder of the game.
Trevecca continued to hold the 1-0 lead in the second half, and early in the second stanza, the Trojans got a pair of chances. Olivia Perroni had a shot stopped by Yurevich in the 47th minute, and in the 55th minute, Hailey Wilkinson sent a shot over the bar.
As the clock wound down, UIS pushed forward harder. The Trojans defended hard, and kept UIS on the perimeter for the most part, but the Prairie Stars still managed seven shots to only one for Trevecca in the final half hour. Bauchou made her first save of the match in the 63rd minute, UIS had another shot blocked in the 78th minute, and with just 1:26 to go in the game, a golden opportunity to salvage the draw was turned aside by Bauchou on a dive to her left and TNU held on to win, 1-0.

Trevecca will open a four match road trip on Thursday, September 3 when they head to Owensboro, Kentucky to take on former Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe Kentucky Wesleyan University (0-2). The match is slated to be the Panthers' home opener, and kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
