NASHVILLE – Ben Tyree, the winningest coach in Trevecca softball history and the program's longest-tenured head coach, is the newest member of the 2026 Trevecca Athletic Hall of Fame Class.
Trevecca Athletics officially announces Tyree as the fourth member of the 2026 Trevecca Athletic Hall of Fame Class.
The 2026 Class is scheduled to be inducted during Trevecca's Homecoming Weekend, Nov. 6-7.
The 2026-27 school year marks the 125th anniversary of Trevecca's founding in 1901, adding significance to a Hall of Fame class connected to multiple eras of Trevecca Athletics history.
The 2026 Trevecca Athletic Hall of Fame Class will be the largest class in the history of Trevecca Athletics, celebrating the rich Trojan history during the 125th Trevecca Anniversary Celebration.
TYREE TRANSCRIPT
Tyree, the seventh head coach in Trevecca softball history, has led the Trojans for 18 seasons and owns a 597-269-2 overall record. He has produced a 283-105-1 conference record and a 62-35 postseason record, including a 43-27 postseason mark in the NCAA Division II era.
Tyree has led Trevecca through the NAIA, NCCAA, NCAA Division II, Great Midwest Athletic Conference, and Gulf South Conference eras while keeping the program among Trevecca's most consistent winners.
His tenure includes 18 winning seasons, eleven (11) 30-win seasons, five 40-win seasons, nine regular-season conference championships, six postseason conference tournament championships, and four national tournament appearances.
Tyree's teams have reached the national stage across multiple eras. He led Trevecca to two NAIA National Championship appearances, with both teams reaching the Elite Eight, and to two NCCAA National Championship appearances, including a third-place national finish in 2012.
In 2012, Tyree guided the Trojans to the NCCAA Mid-East Region championship and a third-place finish at the NCCAA National Championships.
After the transition to NCAA Division II, Tyree kept Trevecca in postseason position. He led the program to NCAA Division II Midwest Region appearances and, in 2024, guided the Trojans to the program's first NCAA Division II Midwest Regional championship and a trip to the Midwest Super Regionals.
In 2026, during Trevecca's second season in the Gulf South Conference, Tyree led the No. 8 seed Trojans to the GSC Championship Game after defeating top seed West Florida twice at Choccolocco Park. The Trojans finished 22-19 overall and 14-18 in Gulf South play.
NAIA ERA
Tyree's first season in 2009 set the foundation with a 21-19 record and the start of his putting his stamp on the program.
In 2010, Trevecca went 44-17, won the TranSouth championship and advanced to the NAIA Nationals. Tyree earned TranSouth Coach of the Year honors for the first time.
In 2011, the Trojans went 48-4, won the TranSouth regular-season and tournament titles, finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in the NAIA national rankings, and reached the NAIA National Tournament. Tyree was named TranSouth Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
In 2012, Trevecca went 38-16-1, won the NCCAA Mid-East Region championship, advanced to the NCCAA National Championships, and finished third nationally. Tyree was named NCCAA Mid-East Region Coach of the Year.
NCAA ERA
Tyree guided Trevecca through the transition to NCAA Division II and immediately established the Trojans as the standard in the Great Midwest. The Trojans won the first four Great Midwest regular-season championships and the first four Great Midwest postseason championships, going unbeaten in Great Midwest Tournament play during that run.
In 2015, Tyree led Trevecca to 40 wins and the program's first NCAA Division II Midwest Region Championship appearance. The Trojans became the first Great Midwest team to win a postseason regional game and reach a regional championship game.
In 2016, Trevecca won 45 games, earned the first Great Midwest automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division II Midwest Region, and reached the region championship game for the second consecutive season.
Tyree was named Great Midwest Coach of the Year four consecutive seasons from 2013 through 2016. He earned the honor again in 2021, bringing his total to five Great Midwest Coach of the Year selections and eight Coach of the Year honors overall.
Tyree earned his 400th Trevecca win in 2020, a season in which the Trojans became the first Trevecca NCAA era team to be ranked during the regular season and climbed as high as No. 10 in the NFCA rankings before the season was stopped due to COVID.
In 2021, Trevecca won the Great Midwest regular-season title, returned to the NCAA Midwest Region, and Tyree earned Great Midwest Coach of the Year honors again.
In 2022, the Trojans reached the Great Midwest Finals as the No. 4 seed and set NCAA-era program records with 137 stolen bases and 170 walks.
In 2023, Tyree earned his 500th Trevecca win.
In 2024, Trevecca closed its Great Midwest era by winning the program's first NCAA Division II Midwest Regional and advancing to the Midwest Super Regionals.
TYREE TIDBITS
Tyree has been responsible for a major share of Trevecca softball's all-time success. The program owns 26 winning seasons, with 18 coming under Tyree. Trevecca has produced eight 30-win seasons in the NCAA Division II era, all during Tyree's tenure.
His program has produced all-region, all-conference, weekly award, and national-level recognition across multiple eras. The 2021 team featured All-American MaKray Odom, and the 2022 team included D2CCA Midwest All-Region selection Anna Bennett, who set a Trevecca NCAA-era doubles record with 18.
It continued in 2026, Trevecca players earned Gulf South Player of the Week, Gulf South Freshman of the Week, and TSWA Player of the Week honors during the program's first run to the GSC Championship Game.
Before joining Trevecca, Tyree coached at Page High School and Brentwood High School in Williamson County, where his teams produced a 98-29 overall record. He also coached the Brentwood Blues travel team from 1995 through 2004, earning more than 350 victories, a World Series runner-up finish, five top-10 finishes, eight state championships, and two state runner-up finishes.
More than 20 of Tyree's players earned college scholarships at the junior college, NAIA, and NCAA levels. He also coached the Silver Bullets, a women's 23-U fastpitch team in Middle Tennessee, and served as an instructor at University of Tennessee Softball Camps and other Middle Tennessee camps.
Tyree graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration, played basketball for coach Jimmy Earle, and is a member of the Varsity Club.
Tyree enters the Trevecca Athletic Hall of Fame as the winningest coach in program history, one of the most successful coaches in Trevecca Athletics history, and the coach who guided Trevecca softball through championship runs in the NAIA, NCCAA, Great Midwest, NCAA Division II, and Gulf South eras.
