Trevecca Baseball | Harrell Flirts with Perfection as Trojans Advance to GSC Bracket with 4-3 win over Montevallo

OXFORD, Ala. As the season has worn on, Logan Harrell has emerged as the definitive ace for the Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team. He slid into the top spot in the weekend rotation beginning with the series at Christian Brothers, and as Trevecca opened their 2026 postseason with a win-or-go-home date with the University of Montevallo Falcons, Harrell took the ball, and he did not disappoint.

Harrell did not allow an earned run in a complete game victory, and Trevecca (31-19) plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to handing Montevallo (27-24) a 4-3 defeat that ended the season for the Falcons and sends the Trojans into the six-team double-elimination bracket in the Gulf South Conference Championship

In the game, Harrell fanned nine, which helped set a new single season NCAA-era record for strikeouts as a pitching staff for the Trojans. The Trojans now have a season total of 430 strikeouts as a team, and if Trevecca can make a deep run in the postseason, the all-time program record of 469 set by the 2007 team could be in reach.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The win leveled the all-time series between the Trojans and the Falcons at 11 wins apiece, and it allowed Trevecca to exact a little revenge on Montevallo. Trevecca has now won four straight in the series, and six of the last eight, but it also sends home the team who ended Trevecca's 2025 campaign in the Gulf South Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Harrell made quick work of the Falcons in the top of the first, as he needed only six pitches to record the three outs, and in the bottom half, the Trojans immediately staked him to a moderate lead.

Rylan Moses launched his fourth home run of the season on the first pitch he saw to give Trevecca the 1-0 lead, and Trevecca was far from done in the inning. After the next two men were retired, Drew Bradley coaxed a two out walk from Zach Wyatt, and that was followed by consecutive singles from Caleb Webster, Jaxson Christ, and Cade Moore - the latter two of those hits being RBI base knocks - as Trevecca plated three more runs in the inning to take a 4-0 lead.

Harrell remained on cruise control through the next four frames. In total, the junior from Hendersonville, Tennessee set down the first 15 men he faced, and he took a perfect game into the sixth frame. A two-base error to start the sixth broke up the perfect game bid, and Harrell allowed a single to score Caleb Karll to get Montevallo on the board, but he recovered to get the next two men out. On a 1-0 pitch, though, McGwire Turner belted a 2-run homer to pull Montevallo within a single run at 4-3 - though all three runs in the inning were unearned. Harrell got Jack Fitzgerald on strikes to end the threat and preserve the lead, and that got him back on track. Harrell retired the final 10 men he faced, and while Trevecca did not find any insurance late, it proved irrelevant, as the Trojans took the win, 4-3, to extend their season.
