NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (5-7, 1-7) dropped both games of its Gulf South Conference doubleheader against No. 12 West Florida (18-3, 7-1 GSC) on Friday at the Trevecca Softball Complex. The Trojans battled throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell 6-3 in the opener and 7-4 in the nightcap.
Despite the results, Trevecca showed flashes offensively in both games, recording 16 hit across the doubleheader and receiving key contributions from several Trojans at the plate.
West Florida 6, Trevecca 3 (Game 1)
Trevecca answered an early deficit with a big swing in the third inning to even the game.
After
Shay Hollingsworth led off the frame with a single,
Brianna Asmondy delivered the biggest hit of the game for the Trojans, launching a two-run home run to left field to tie the contest at 2-2.
Trevecca continued to threaten throughout the middle innings.
Bailey Goad finished the game with a pair of hits, including a double, while
Annalise Mecklenburg and
Sarah Nicholson also added singles.
The Trojans tied the game again in the sixth inning when
Kyleigh Burgett drove a double into left-center field, bringing home
Annabelle Ellis to make the score 3-3.
Goad worked a complete game in the circle for Trevecca, allowing six runs—only two of them earned—while scattering seven hits across seven innings.

West Florida 7, Trevecca 4 (Game 2)
The Trojans again rallied late in the second game, cutting into an early deficit and briefly tying the game in the sixth inning.
Trevecca got on the board in the fifth when
Kyleigh Burgett blasted a solo home run to left field, trimming the West Florida lead to 2-1.
In the sixth inning, the Trojans strung together several key hits to tie the contest.
Brianna Asmondy started the rally with a double before
Bailey Goad followed with a bunt single.
Sarah Nicholson then delivered an RBI double to bring Trevecca within one, and a groundout from
Parker Herrin plated another run to even the score at 3-3.
Nicholson continued her strong day at the plate with two hits, including a triple and a double, while Burgett recorded two hits and scored twice for the Trojans.
West Florida regained the lead with a four-run seventh inning before Trevecca added one final run in the bottom half.
Kylie Chetakian delivered a pinch-hit RBI double to center field to score Burgett and cap the scoring at 7-4.
