MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team split its Gulf South Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Orr Park, rebounding from a 10-2 setback in the opener to earn a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.
The Trojans (5-5, 1-5 GSC) earned their first league win of the season behind strong pitching and timely hitting, handing Montevallo (16-4, 3-3 GSC) just its fourth loss of the year.
Series History / Notes
Trevecca leads the all-time series 6-2. The Falcons' win in the opener of the series marked their first victory against TNU. The Trojans reclaimed the momentum in the nightcap.
Montevallo 10, Trevecca 2 (Game 1)
The Falcons opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the third, but the Trojans responded immediately in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs.
Annalise Mecklenburg singled to left field to start the fourth, and
Kyleigh Burgett followed with a double. Both runners came around to score on a throwing error by the third baseman, giving Trevecca a 2-1 advantage.
Montevallo answered with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain control. The Falcons added three more runs in the sixth to trigger the eight-run rule and end the game in six innings.
Circle and Box Notes – Game 1
Annalise Mecklenburg finished 2-for-2 with a run scored to lead the Trojans offensively.
Kyleigh Burgett went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, accounting for Trevecca's only extra-base hit.
Parker Herrin (2-3) took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) in 3.1 innings.
Trevecca 4, Montevallo 1 (Game 2)
Trevecca responded in the nightcap with a complete team effort, using late-inning offense and dominant pitching to secure the Saturday doubleheader split.
After Montevallo struck first with a run in the second, the Trojans broke through in the fifth.
Kyleigh Burgett doubled to right-center, and
Sarah Nicholson followed with a two-run single to left field, giving Trevecca a 2-1 lead.
The Trojans added insurance in the sixth.
Bailey Goad reached on an error and scored on an RBI single by
Annalise Mecklenburg. Shayna Kinderdin followed with an RBI single to right field, pushing the advantage to 4-1.
Bailey Goad was outstanding in the circle, working six strong innings and allowing just one run on five hits while striking out three.
Parker Herrin closed the door in the seventh, earning the save.

Sarah Nicholson drove in two runs with a single in the fifth.
Annalise Mecklenburg went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Sarah Kinderdine finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Kyleigh Burgett added a double and scored a run.
Bailey Goad (3-2) earned the win, throwing six innings and allowing just one earned run.
Parker Herrin picked up her first save of the season.
