NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University softball (4-3, 0-3 GSC) dropped both ends of its home opener, which also served as the Gulf South Conference opener. Valdosta State University (6-6, 2-0 GSC) knocked off the Trojans 7-4 in come-from-behind fashion in game one, then rolled to an 11-1 victory in game two.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The Blazers lead the all-time series 4-3. Trevecca won three of the first four meetings, all last season, but VSU has now taken three in a row to gain the edge in the series.
Valdosta State 10, Trevecca 8
Valdosta State opened the game with a run in the top of the first on an infield groundout. In the top of the third, the Blazers added four runs to their side of the ledger, using two solo home runs and a two-run homer to build a 5-0 lead.
The Trojans broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Zoey Lawrence reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Sarah Kinderdin to score. VSU added a run in the top of the sixth to push its lead to 6-1.
Trevecca answered in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. Annabell Ellis opened the scoring with an RBI single that brought home Shay Hollingsworth. Rachel Hunter followed with an RBI single to score Kyleigh Burgett, and Bailey Goad kept the rally alive with an RBI single of her own to plate Ellis. The Trojans entered the seventh trailing 6-4.
Both teams scored four runs in their half of the seventh inning. Valdosta State extended its lead to 10-4 before Trevecca made a late push. Brianna Asmondy opened the inning with a solo home run. Addy Grace Summers scored Brooklyn Miles on a groundout, and Sarah Nicholson drove in Burgett with a sacrifice fly. Kylie Chetakian followed with a solo home run to close out the Trojans' scoring.
Circle and Box Notes
Brianna Asmondy went 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a home run. Asmondy has three home runs on the season.
The Blazers scored 10 runs on 13 hits with two errors.
TNU finished with eight runs on 11 hits and one error.
Valdosta State's four home runs on Saturday gave the Blazers 11 for the series.

Trevecca heads to Montevallo (1-2, 1-2 GSC) next week for a showdown with the Falcons beginning at 3 p.m. Friday.
The Trojans return home for a doubleheader with Kentucky Wesleyan (3-7) on Tuesday, March 3, at 2 p.m. Later that week, Trevecca hosts its next home Gulf South Conference series as league-leading West Florida (14-2, 3-0 GSC) visits for a three-game set March 6-7. The Argonauts are ranked No. 12 nationally.
