Trevecca Softball | Trojans Drop GSC Opener; Host Valdosta State Saturday at 11 AM

NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University softball (4-2, 2-0 GSC) dropped both ends of their home opener which is also their GSC Conference Opener. Valdosta State University (6-6, 2-0 GSC knocked off the Trojans 7-4 in come-from-behind fashion in game one, the rolled to an 11-1 victory in game two.

 

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The all-time series is tied 3-3 between the Blazers and Trojans. Trevecca won three of the first four meetings, all last season, but now VSU leveled the series.

 

GM 1: Valdosta State 7, Trevecca 4
TNU took an early lead with a two-run third on a pair of RBI singles from Kyleigh Burgett and Annalise Mecklenburg. VSU evened the game at 2-2 with a two-run fifth, then took a one run lead (3-2) on a solo home run in the sixth. Brianna Asmondy put the Trojans back on top (4-2 with a two-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth. The Blazers took the momentum back with a four-run top of the seventh, fueled by a pair of two-run singles.

 

Circle and Box Notes 

Parker Herrin (2-1) took her first loss of the year after giving up seven runs, five earned, over six innings.

The Blazers drew four walks and produced 13 hits off Trojan hurlers.

Savannah Barfield (3-1) earned the win with a complete game.

Brianna Asmondy had the only Trojan extra base hit with her two-run home run, her second home run of the season.

Kyleigh Burgett went 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

 

GM 2: Valdosta State 11, Trevecca 1
Valdosta continued their late-inning momentum from game one with a two-run second inning, taking a 2-0 lead. The Blazers did not relinquish the last, going on to win 11-1. The Trojans scored their lone run in the bottom of the second on a solo home run off the bat of Shay Hollingsworth. VSU didn't allow another run and limited the Trojans to five hits while delivering double digit hits again with ten. The Blazers

 

Circle and Box Notes 
Zoe Lawrence was the only Trojan with a multi-hit game, going 2-3.

Shay Hollingsworth scored and drove in the Trojans lone run with a solo home run in the bottom of the second.

The Trojans didn't draw a walk.

Trojan pitchers allow six Blazer home runs.

 

Next on the Diamond
The Trojans and Blazers complete their Gulf South Conference series on Saturday with a single game starting at 11 AM.
Trevecca heads to Montevallo (0-2, 0-2 GSC) next week for a showdown with the Falcons beginning at 3 PM on Friday.
