NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University men's soccer standout Chris Douglas has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the third time this season, the organization announced Tuesday.
Douglas earned the honor for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 4, after producing three goals and an assist for seven points while helping the Trojans post a 2-0 week and improve to 8-1-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the Gulf South Conference.
The junior forward delivered the signature performance of the week Tuesday at Freed-Hardeman, scoring the first hat trick of his Trevecca career in a dramatic 4-3 road victory.
Douglas completed the hat trick with just 1:07 remaining, providing the game-winning goal as the Trojans won their second consecutive road match. He scored on all three of his shots, putting each attempt on goal.
He followed the six-point performance by adding an assist Saturday as Trevecca returned to Gulf South play with a 3-1 victory over Delta State.
Douglas finished the two-match week with three goals, an assist, seven points and a game-winning goal while contributing directly to four of Trevecca's seven goals.
DOUGLAS' HISTORIC START CONTINUES
Douglas now has 10 goals in eight appearances this season, matching Jonathan Baskin's Trevecca NCAA Division II-era single-season record.
He reached the mark despite missing two Trevecca matches while representing Antigua and Barbuda internationally. Douglas scored twice and added two assists in a 5-0 victory for the Benna Boys before returning to Nashville and continuing his record-setting collegiate season.
Douglas entered the 2026 season with 11 career goals in his first 26 matches. He has nearly matched that total in eight appearances this fall.
His latest TSWA honor is his third of the season. Douglas was previously selected for the weeks ending Sept. 13 and Sept. 20, becoming the first repeat winner of the award this season with his back-to-back selections.
Douglas has also been a regular among the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week nominees during his breakout season.
TROJANS CONTINUE TO DRAW REGIONAL, NATIONAL ATTENTION
Trevecca's historic start continues to attract attention beyond the Gulf South Conference.
The Trojans are 8-1-2, already reaching eight victories for the first time since the 2018 team and matching the program's NCAA Division II-era single-season high.
Trevecca received votes in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 for the third consecutive week and has climbed to No. 4 in the NCAA South Region rankings.
The national and regional attention follows a first half of the season that included a 1-0 road victory at then-No. 19 Carson-Newman, the program's first victory on the Eagles' home field, and a 1-1 draw at then-No. 20 UAH.
Trevecca has won three consecutive matches since its only loss of the season, defeating Christian Brothers 1-0, Freed-Hardeman 4-3 and Delta State 3-1.
BIG GSC MATCHUP AT UNION
The Trojans return to Gulf South Conference play Wednesday with an important road match at Union University.
Trevecca visits the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Smith Soccer Complex in Jackson, Tennessee.
The match sends the Trojans into the heart of the GSC postseason race with just five regular-season matches remaining.
