NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (2-1) continued its strong start to the 2025 season with a 3-1 win over No. 21 Wayne State College on Saturday afternoon at the Fifth Annual Thrasher Classic at Trojan Fieldhouse. The Trojans won by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 15-25, and 25-20. Unfortunately for the Trojans, they dropped the final game of the tournament to Jamestown, falling 23-25, 16-25, 22-25.

THE SERIES
This was the first-ever meeting between the two programs in volleyball.
THE MATCH
Wayne State opened slowly in the first set, committing nine attack errors while the Trojans jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Wildcats pulled within one (16-15), but Trevecca answered with five of the next six points to push ahead 21-16 and closed out the frame 25-18.
The second set featured nine ties and three lead changes before Trevecca surged late. Down 10-8 after consecutive aces by Wayne State, the Trojans responded with a 7-1 run for a 20-15 advantage and finished with another 25-18 win to go up two sets to none.
The Wildcats found rhythm in the third, hitting .407 and breaking a 12-12 tie with a closing 13-3 run to claim a 25-15 set.
In the fourth, Trevecca never trailed. The set was tied at 8-8, but the Trojans stretched the lead to 17-12. Wayne State fought back within one (18-17), but Trevecca steadied and closed it out 25-20 to seal the match.
TROJAN NOTES
Trevecca hit .207 for the match while holding the Wildcats to .086. The Trojans owned statistical edges in digs (59-52), blocks (8-5), and service aces (8-7).
GAME TWO - JAMESTOWN
THE SERIES

THE MATCH
Jamestown swept Trevecca in straight sets (25–23, 25–16, 25–22) at Trojan Fieldhouse. The Trojans battled closely in the opening and closing frames but could not overcome Jamestown's efficient offense. The Jimmies hit .269 as a team while limiting Trevecca to a .092 percentage.
Trevecca was led by Katilyn Grant with 13 kills, while Addison Cunnagin added nine and Skias Hainline chipped in four. Grant also hit .476 on the night, and Isabella Sherrod posted a perfect 1.000 hitting mark. Hainline recorded a team-best four service aces.
Despite strong individual performances, Trevecca committed 23 attack errors and was unable to extend the match past three sets.
UP NEXT
The Trojans travel to Huntsville, Alabama, for the UAH Invitational next weekend. On Friday (12th), Trevecca opens against Lincoln Memorial University at 10:00 AM, then faces Spring Hill College at 4:45 PM. The Trojans close out the tournament on Saturday at 12:15 PM against Nova Southeastern University.
