Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Knock Out Flames, Claim First-Ever GSC Tournament Win

OXFORD, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (23-26) stayed alive in its first-ever Gulf South Conference tournament with a 4-2 win over the seventh seeded Lee University (24-26) on Sunday morning at Choccolocco Park.

Trevecca is 8-2 over their last ten games and have gone 15-7 since beating No. 16 Carson-Newman University, 7-3, on March 26.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Trevecca is 3-1 versus Lee this season. Trevecca won the regular season series, at Lee, two games to one. The Flames command an overwhelming 41-15 all-time series advantage since the 1997 season. Additionally, Lee holds a 11-4 lead in the Division II era.

HOW IT HAPPENED
TNU 4, LEE 2
Through the opening two innings, the Trojans received just one single before the Flames put a two spot up in the bottom of the second. Two RBI singles made it 2-0 Lee and it stayed that way through three innings complete.

The Trojans fought back in the fourth, though. Despite back-to-back strikeouts to kick off the inning, Brady Maciak singled to right center field before Frankie Carreras smashed a ball to left field to tie things up at 2-2.

The next four innings saw just three over the minimum reach base for Trevecca as the Flames pitching staff really clamped down. The Trojans made magic happen in the ninth, though, when once again a pair of strikeouts to lead the inning made the Flames think twice.

After a dropped ball on a strikeout let Carreras reach first, Luke Dymond was pinged with the ball. With two runners on, Josh Griffin sent a ball down the left field line to clear the bases and give Trevecca the 4-2 lead.

Despite the Flames getting a runner to third base with just one out in the bottom of the ninth, Trojan reliever Nick Judd finished the job with a strikeout and fly out to help Trevecca win its first-ever GSC Tournament game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
* Frankie Carreras went 1-4 with the game-tying two-run home run, a pair of runs scored, and two RBI.
* Josh Griffin was 1-3 with a walk and two RBI.
Luke Dymond went 1-1 with a run scored.
* Nick Judd (5-5) picked up the win in relief. He went the 4.0 innings in which he allowed just one hit and struck three.

NEXT ON THE DIAMOND
With the win, the Trojans survive and advance to play in Game 10 of the 2025 GSC Championships. They face #8 University of Montevallo (26-24) on Monday at Choccolocco Park. Game 10 will start approximately 30 minutes after Game 9 is completed. Game 9 is schedule to start at 10:00 AM. Given the weather conditions all weekend in Oxford, Ala., the schedule for the rest of the championships is still subject to change. Follow our Trevecca Trojan social media platforms and tnutrojans.com for updates and changes. The Gulf South social platforms and website are also a good source for any changes that might occur.

Trevecca took two of three from the University of Montevallo at Jackson Field earlier this season. The Falcons started the 2025 GSC chaos by upsetting the regular season champion and tournament favorite Delta State University, 7-6, in their opening round game. Montevallo took three of four from the Statesmen this season. TNU owns a 7-3 edge over the last ten games in the series. In the NCAA Division II era, the Falcons lead the series 10-7.
