OXFORD, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (28-18) bounced back in the 2025 Gulf South Conference Championship, upsetting fifth-seeded Valdosta State (26-25) 3-0 on Thursday afternoon at Choccolocco Park.
It is the first postseason win for the Trojans as a member of the Gulf South Conference.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Trevecca and Valdosta State met in a regular-season series earlier this year, with the Trojans taking two out of three games on the road. With Thursday's shutout, Trevecca now leads the all-time series 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Trevecca opened the scoring in the second inning when
Maddie Poschke doubled to left field, driving in
Madison Pruitt for a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Poschke delivered again with a run-scoring single down the left field line that plated
Annabelle Ellis.
The Trojans added an insurance run in the sixth when
Brookelyn Miles stole third base and came home on a throwing error by the catcher, stretching the lead to 3-0.
Ashlan Sensing was dominant in the circle once again, tossing a complete-game three-hit shutout. The senior struck out four and walked two.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
- Ashlan Sensing (21-9) earned her 21st win of the season with a 110-pitch, 7.0-inning shutout.
- Maddie Poschke went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, driving in Trevecca's first two runs.
- Madison Pruitt added a double and scored the opening run.
- Trevecca recorded six hits and played error-free defense while stranding just three runners.
NEXT ON THE DIAMOND
Trevecca advances in the GSC Tournament and will face third-seeded Mississippi College (35-16) on Friday at 10:00 AM at Choccolocco Park.
The Choctaws swept the Trojans 3-0 in the season series in Clinton, Miss. MC leads the all-time series in the D2 era 4-0, winning the first meeting in 2024 during the UAH Charger Chillout in Albertville, Ala.
The winner of the Trevecca / Mississippi College game plays again at 3:30 PM on Friday against the winner of game 8, late game Thursday between fourth-seed UAH and top-seeded AUM.
The loser is eliminated from the tournament.
