OXFORD, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (27-18, 16-17 GSC) dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to No. 6 (NFCA) and top-seeded Auburn Montgomery (35-10, 25-8 GSC) on Wednesday night in the opening round of the 2025 Gulf South Conference Championship at Choccolocco Park.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
This marks the fourth meeting between the programs, with all four going in favor of the Warhawks. Earlier this season, AUM swept the Trojans in a three-game series in Montgomery.
HOW IT HAPPENED
TNU 0, AUM 1
In a tight pitcher's duel under the lights, Trevecca's GSC pitcher of the year,
Ashlan Sensing, went toe-to-toe with AUM's ace through five scoreless innings. The Warhawks finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out RBI single from Meredith Kellum, which brought home Rebecca Komers for the game's only run.
Trevecca's lone hit came from Sensing herself in the sixth inning, but AUM's Reese Cauley was dominant in the circle, holding the Trojans hitless over the rest of the game to complete the shutout.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
- Ashlan Sensing (L, 20-9) delivered another quality start, allowing just one run on five hits in six innings with two strikeouts.
- Ashlan Sensing broke up AUM's no-hit bid with a single to right in the sixth, Trevecca's only hit of the game.
- Trevecca was held to one hit or fewer for just the second time this season, the other coming in a hitless outing against Auburn Montgomery on Feb. 14. The Trojans left four runners on base in the game.
NEXT ON THE DIAMOND
Trevecca drops to the losers bracket and will face No. 5 seed Valdosta State (26-14, 19-13 GSC) on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Choccolocco Park.
The Trojans previously won two of three in their regular-season series against the Blazers, including a standout weekend from
Brianna Asmondy, who hit five home runs and earned NFCA Player of the Week honors.
