Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Knock Down Bulldogs in Extras, Take Series

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (8-14, 6-9 GSC) closed up a three-game set with Union University (10-14, 4-10 GSC) at Jackson Field on Sunday afternoon.

Trevecca beat the Bulldogs, 5-4, and took the series, two games to one.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Dating back to 2001, Trevecca commands a 28-20-1 advantage in the all-time series over the Bulldogs, including a 14-3-1 lead in the Division II era.

HOW IT HAPPENED
TNU 5, UU 4 – F/11
The series finale started out rather slow, as both teams combined for three total hits and five base runners through three innings.

The Bulldogs added another hit in the fourth, despite stranding two. Trevecca went down in order in the bottom half of the inning before cracking through the scoreless tie in the sixth. Trojan starter Spencer Wilkins retired the side quickly before his offense set him up for the win. Wyatt Bowling ripped a lead-off double down the left field line before Joey Parliment smacked his team-most sixth home run of the season, making it 2-0 Trevecca. Two outs later the second hit-by-pitch of the frame made it 3-0 Trojans.

Union would not go away quietly, though. The visitors erupted for a four-run seventh inning after three walks, a pair of singles and a fielder's choice made things difficult for the Trojan defense. The Trojans countered to tie it after the seventh inning stretch with a sacrifice fly to center field. Neither team cooked much up in the final two innings which forced extra innings.

After the Bulldogs were retired in order in the tenth, Trevecca got the game-winning run in scoring position before a ground out sent things to the eleventh. Three straight singles ended things for the Trojans. Joey Parliment drove in Carter Warner with a single down the left field line as Trevecca won, 5-4.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
* Wyatt Bowling went 4-6 with two runs scored at the top of the lineup.
* Joey Parliment was 3-5 with three RBI, a walk and run scored.
* Carter Warner went 1-4 with a run scored and a walk.
* Nick Judd (2-2) pitched the final three innings, to pick up the win. He allowed just two hits and struck out three in this outing in which he faced 10 batters and closed the door.

NEXT ON THE DIAMOND
The Trojans remain at home and welcome the nation's number one ranked team in North Greenville University (21-6, 10-5 CC) to Nashville for a midweek series.

The Trailblazers and Trojans have not played for nearly 20 years. NGU swept TNU during the 2006 season, a three-game series played in Nashville. NGU holds a 3-0 all-time series lead.
