Trevecca Softball | #17 Trojans Roll Through Chillout, Beat KWC 14-7

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – The No. 17 Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (9-0) remained perfect at the Young Harris College hosted Chillout on Sunday with a win over Kentucky Wesleyan College.

Trevecca defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College (0-4) 14-7 and finished the Chillout with a perfect 5-0 record.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES 
With today's win, Trevecca controls a 27-13 edge in the all-time series over the Panthers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
TNU 14, KWC 7
Seven of the first eight batters in the top of the first reached, as the Trojans combined to give starter Rylee Veron a 3-0 lead heading in to the bottom of the first. After the Panthers were retired in order, the Trojan added a fourth run in the top of the second. A two-out single to left field off the bat of Brianna Asmondy made it 4-0 Trevecca. Kentucky Wesleyan got on the board in the bottom of the second, though, with some clutch hitting, mostly with two outs. KWC pulled out three runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-3 game. After a quick third inning by both sides, the fourth inning featured five total runs. Maddie Poschke singled in two runs with a ball she sent to center field and on the next play was caught stealing, but allowed Kylie Chetakian to touch home on the play. KWC sliced into the 7-3 deficit with a two-run single before consecutive outs made way for the fifth. Three runners were left on base in the fifth before each side added two runs in the sixth. Brianna Asmondy led off with a solo shot to left center before a Sarah Nicholson pop-up brought home the other run. A two-run triple to right center gave KWC two runs to make it a 9-7 game. Trevecca unloaded with a five spot in the top of the seventh as a triple followed by a double, walk and single plated two runs before a Panther pitching change. Poschke then cleared the bases, with a double to center field, making it 14-7 Trojans.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Maddie Poschke was 2-5 with six RBI and a double.
* Brianna Asmondy went 3-4 with three runs scored, three RBI and a walk.
* Annabelle Ellis went 3-4 with three RBI, a double and a run scored. 
* Rylee Veron (1-0) started and picked up her first win of the season, going three innings. She allowed seven hits and five runs in the win.

NEXT ON THE DIAMOND    
The Trojans begin Gulf South Conference play next Friday, February 14 when they take on Auburn University Montgomery (5-2).
 
First pitch with AUM is set for 3:00 p.m. at the AUM Softball Complex. The all-time series is split 1-1 since beginning in 2012.
