BREAKING IT DOWN
In a game that remained tight throughout, it was Valdosta State that struck first, pulling away early after an even 8-8 start. The Blazers went on a 12-5 run to create the first significant cushion of the game.
For most of the first half, Trevecca battled to chip away at the deficit. Their persistence paid off, as the Trojans put together a 16-7 run in the final minutes of the half to reclaim the lead for the first time since the early stages of the game.
However, Valdosta State responded with a clutch three-pointer in the closing moments to take a narrow 44-42 lead into the break.
In the second half, Valdosta's defensive pressure became the deciding factor. The Blazers applied full-court pressure and doubled the ball handler off inbounds plays, making it difficult for the Trojans to find an offensive rhythm.
Despite the aggressive defense, Trevecca managed to stay within striking distance for the first ten minutes of the half, keeping the Blazers' lead mostly within one possession.
With 5:28 left to play and Trevecca trailing by just five, Valdosta made its decisive move. The Blazers went on a 13-5 run to extend their lead to 15 points with under two minutes remaining, effectively putting the game out of reach.
The Trojans fought to close the gap late, but the Blazers' control in the closing minutes sealed the 96-84 victory.
