Trevecca Softball | #17 Trojans Take Two to Open Charger Chillout

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – The No. 17 Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (6-0) picked up two wins to start the Young Harris College hosted Charger Chillout on Friday.

Trevecca defeated Shorter University (0-3) 3-2 and finished the day off with a win over hosts Young Harris College (1-2) 5-2.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Trevecca improves to 4-2 all-time versus Shorter.

The Trojans got on the right side of the series with YHC, taking a 4-3 all-time lead. Trevecca has won the past three meetings.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
TNU 3, Shorter 2
Just three total frames featured any runs as both teams combined for nine hits. Shorter got on the board first with a lead-off single. A sacrifice bunt but the runner in scoring position for another single to right field to break the scoring drought. Both sides went down in order in the fourth before the Hawks punched a second run home in the fifth. A lead-off walk set up another sacrifice bunt and RBI single for the 2-0 lead.

With one-out in the sixth, the Trojans bats went to work. Annabelle Ellis got the party started with a double to left center before Brianna Asmondy traded spots with Ellis off a run scoring double to left field. Maddie Poschke singled what ended up being the game winning run for the 3-2 victory.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Brianna Asmondy was 2-3 with an RBI.
* Annabelle Ellis went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
* Maddie Poschke went 1-3 with the game-winning RBI.
* Parker Herrin (1-0) earned the win coming on in relief. She tossed 2.1 innings while promptly retiring all five batters she faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
TNU 5, Young Harris 2
Unlike game one, the Trojans bats struck first in this one. Ashlan Sensing led the third off with a single and she was later brought in when Madison Pruitt connected with a ball to center field. YHC quickly got out in front though, as a two-run homer gave the Mountain Lions its only two runs of the day. In the fourth, Kyleigh Burgett singled in a run while Sensing's sacrifice fly ended up being the game-winning run. For good measure, though, Sensing brought in another run via a double in the sixth and Annabelle Ellis' double in the seventh gave the Trojans a 5-2 win.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Brianna Asmondy was 2-4 with a run scored.
* Ashlan Sensing went 2-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.
