VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 12 Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (10-4, 1-4 GSC) split a pair of games to open the series with Valdosta State at Steel's Diamond on Saturday afternoon.
Trevecca took down Valdosta State (6-9, 2-2 GSC) 6-2 and finished up the doubleheader with an 10-8 loss to the Blazers.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
The series sits at 1-1 all-time as this is the first time both sides have met in softball.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
TNU 6, VSU 2
A quick top of the first for the Trojans made way for a two-run Blazer half inning. With two outs, a home run to left field gave the home side a 2-0 lead and one of its four total hits on the game. The Trojans managed just one hit through the first five innings before exploding in the sixth.
Maddie Poschke drilled a grand slam over the left center field wall, her first home of the season, to give Trevecca a 4-2 lead. For good measure,
Brianna Asmondy sent a ball to left center to help Trevecca to two more insurance runs. Asmondy leads the GSC in dingers this season and now has six. VSU was retired in order in the seventh as the Trojans took the opener, 6-2.

Ashlan Sensing (6-2) started and got back in the win column by striking out eight over her complete game. She allowed just two runs and four hits in the outing.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
VSU 10, TNU 8
Game two featured much more offense as both sides put two across in the first inning. Asmondy picked up her second long ball of the day to make it 2-0 Trevecca before back-to-back Blazer home runs tied things up. A bases loaded walk from
Ashlan Sensing made it 3-2 Trevecca in the second. Another VSU home run in the third gave the home side back a 4-3 lead. Asmondy went yard for the third time in the fourth, as she sent a ball to right, giving the Trojans a 5-4 advantage. Three home runs by VSU helped the Blazers to a six-run fifth inning, a lead they did not give up the rest of the way. With two outs in the sixth, Asmondy smashed her fourth home run of the day to pull Trevecca back within three runs at 10-7.
Kyleigh Burgett led off the seventh with a solo shot but Trevecca came up just short in the end, 10-8.
