Trevecca Men's Basketball | Trojans Win Streak Snapped by Montevallo

NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University's men's basketball team entered Saturday's home tilt with the Gulf South Conference preseason favorites from the University of Montevallo riding high. The Trojans had won five in a row after dropping their first game of the season, but on Saturday afternoon, Trevecca saw that streak snapped.

Trevecca (5-2, 1-1 GSC) ran into a buzzsaw as Montevallo (4-3, 2-0 GSC) used a big first half effort to cruise to the win, 90-60.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trevecca opened the game with an 8-3 run, with Brett Wright and Spencer White each connecting from deep during the stretch. When Montevallo got going, though, the Trojans also went cold on the offensive end. Montevallo scored 30 of the next 40 points in the game to take a 33-18 lead, and in that span, the Trojans were just 3-for-20 shooting and only 2-for-11 from deep. The Falcons stretched their lead to 24 points at the half at 47-23.

The Falcons kept the pressure up in the second half as well, as they opened the stanza on a 10-2 run. Montevallo led by as many as 47 in the half, and while the Trojans were able to close the gap with a late run, Trevecca fell 90-60.

THE TEAM

Trevecca shot just 30.2 percent from the floor in the game, and 30 percent from long distance. The Trojans were 10-for-13 (76.9%) from the foul line in the game. Trevecca did find scoring advantages off the bench (37-24) and off turnovers (16-11) in the game.

THE PLAYERS

Wright led the Trojans with 13 points in the game, and Jax Abernathy also reached double-figures with 10 points. Fred Bailey led Trevecca with four rebounds, and Mason Brown handed out three assists.
