NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team tipped off the 2025–26 campaign in exhibition fashion on Saturday evening at Trojan Fieldhouse, locking in defensively and rolling to a 76–43 win over Oakwood.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
Saturday marked the second all-time meeting between Trevecca and Oakwood. With the victory, the Trojans extend their lead in the series to 2–0.
THE MATCH
Trevecca's defense dictated the first quarter, and Oakwood never recovered. The Trojans forced turnovers, closed out on shooters, and held Oakwood to just one field goal in the opening frame. On the other end,
Tatum Shaw and
Jordan Gillies sparked the attack from the perimeter, while
Cheyenne Trotter got loose inside as Trevecca built an 18–4 advantage after 10 minutes.
Oakwood found a bit more rhythm in the second quarter, but Trevecca's pressure continued to create problems. The Trojans turned miscues into transition opportunities and second-chance looks, pushing the margin to as many as 19 before the break. A late Oakwood three trimmed the deficit slightly, but Trevecca still went to the locker room firmly in control, up 29–13.
Any remaining doubt disappeared in the third. Gillies and Trotter fueled another surge as Trevecca came out of halftime with a 21-point quarter, extending the lead to 50–25.
Ellie Butler provided a spark from the bench in the fourth, Shaw connected from distance again, and the Trojans' reserves maintained the intensity on both ends. Trevecca outscored Oakwood 26–18 in the final period, pushing the lead above 40 before settling in with a dominant 76–43 exhibition victory.
THE TEAM
The Trojans shot 27-for-64 (42.2%) from the field and 11-for-31 (35.5%) from three-point range, while holding Oakwood to 26.0% (13-for-50) overall and 15.8% (3-for-19) from beyond the arc.
Trevecca owned a 41–40 edge on the glass, forced 23 Oakwood turnovers, and converted those into 24 points. The Trojans added 18 fast-break points and 22 points off the bench.
