Trevecca Men's Basketball | Trojans Cruise Past Lane in Jackson for Fourth Straight Win; Open GSC Play Dec. 4

JACKSON, Tenn.  One of the main questions that often arises when a successful coach departs a program is, "can the team keep up the positive momentum that has been built." Thus far in the 2025-26 season for the Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team and their new coach Nathan Moran, the answer to that question has been a resounding, "yes."

Trevecca (4-1) wrapped up the pre-conference portion of their season on Tuesday evening with an 89-72 win on the road at Lane College (1-2) for the Trojans' fourth straight win. The game was the first ever meeting between Lane and Trevecca in men's basketball. The Trojans do have one more non-conference game when Cumberland University visits on New Year's Eve.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trevecca rocketed out of the chute, as they opened the game on a 14-2 run. Latham Binkley opened the scoring with a 3-pointer just less than two minutes into the game, and by the time the run was interrupted, he had made another from deep as had his teammates Brett Wright and Justin Bass. Wright added an emphatic dunk during the run as well. Moments later, Wright added two more made 3-pointers, and by the time the game was nine and a half minutes old, the Trojans were up 28-7. As the half wound down, Lane did put together a 9-2 spurt to cut the Trojans' lead to 32-18, but a late 7-0 run helped Trevecca widen the gap back out, and at the break, the Trojans led 47-27.

Trevecca needed nearly four minutes to make their first field goal of the second half, but even with that, Trevecca kept Lane from making a sizable dent in the margin. Lane opened the second half on an 11-4 run, but Trevecca answered with a 9-0 run that pushed the lead back out to 22 points at 60-38. Trevecca cooled from behind the arc in the second half, but the Trojans adjusted and attacked the rim. Trevecca converted several traditional 3-point plays, and the Trojans never led by fewer than a dozen in the second half, as they cruised home with the 89-72 win.

THE TEAM

Trevecca again made more shots than they missed in the game. The Trojans were 30-for-59 (50.8%) from the floor, including 9-for-21 (42.9%) from deep. At the charity stripe, Trevecca made 20 of 23 (87%) attempts, and consequently, the Trojans held the lead for almost 96% of the game. The Trojans never trailed in the contest, and it was also never tied. The largest TNU lead was 24 points, and the Trojans out-rebounded the Dragons 33-24.

THE PLAYERS

Brett Wright led the way for the Trojans offensively with 21 points, and he was one of four Trevecca players to reach double-figures. Jax Abernathy tallied 16, Da'Shon Fisher added 13, and Fred Bailey contributed 11 in the contest. Bailey also paced Trevecca in rebounds (7), and he and Spencer White each had seven assists. Fisher added three steals, and he, Bailey, and Latham Binkley each had a blocked shot.

UP NEXT

The Trojans will break for the Thanksgiving holiday, and they return to action on Thursday, December 4. That evening, the Trojans open their second season in the Gulf South Conference with their 2025-26 GSC opener against the Warhawks of Auburn University at Montgomery (1-4). Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Trojans, picked eighth in the GSC preseason coaches' poll, open Gulf South Conference play when preseason No. 10 Auburn University at Montgomery visits. The Warhawks have one more game between now and their trip to Trojan Fieldhouse. AUM finished 9-18 overall and 6-16 in GSC play last year. The Trojans, who won both meetings a season ago, hold a 2-1 all-time edge. AUM won the first all-time meeting during the 2006-07 season.

Trevecca hosts preseason GSC favorite the University of Montevallo (2-2) on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 4:00 p.m. The first-ever meetings between the two programs in men's basketball came last season, with each team winning on its home court. The Falcons have two games remaining before they tip it off in Nashville.

The Falcons finished last season 20-11 overall and 15-7 in league play. They were the No. 3 seed in the GSC Championships, advanced to the semifinals, and received an at-large bid to the NCAA South Region Tournament.
