Trevecca Women's Soccer | Trojans Unable to Convert Chances in Loss at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Trevecca Nazarene women's soccer team (3-5-3, 1-3-3 GSC) fell behind early on the road on Friday afternoon, as the Trojans' old rivals from Lee University (6-2-2, 4-2-1 GSC) tallied a goal in the 22nd minute and added another after halftime to take the 2-0 victory.

THE SERIES

With the victory, Lee holds a 5-0-1 mark against the Trojans in the NCAA era of the programs.

THE MATCH

The Trojans earned a corner kick in just the second minute of action. However, the Trojans were unable to generate a shot off the set piece opportunity, and Lee began to take control of play. Bauchou made a trio of saves in the opening 10 minutes, as Lee fired the first four shots of the match before Kylie Bradshaw got the Trojans on the shot chart in the 10th minute.

Play stayed in the middle of the field for much of the next 11 minutes, but in the 22nd minute, Lee's Lucy Smith managed to solve Bauchou to give the Flames the 1-0 lead. Both teams limited chances for their opponent through the remainder of the half, with the teams combining for only two shots in the final 23 minutes of the frame. At the break, Lee held the 1-0 lead.

The teams traded off-target shots in the first five minutes after intermission, but as with the first half, much of the play was contained in non-scoring areas until the 67th minute. That's when Lee added an insurance tally, this time from Siri Stenslie to double the Flames' lead at 2-0.

As the clock wound down, Trevecca maintained ample possession, with much of that time coming in the attacking half of the pitch. In the 72nd minute, Taylor Baines fired a shot low on target, which forced Abby Whitcomb to make a save, and less than a minute later, Peyton Wilkinson ripped one that was blocked away by the Flames' defense. Noelle Garcia forced another Whitcomb save in the 75th minute, and in the 84th minute, she took a shot that missed the frame to the left.

That proved to be the last opportunity Trevecca recorded in the match, as despite controlling the possession, Lee managed to keep the ball on the perimeter and run out the clock to claim the 2-0 win.

Mary Bauchou (0-1) made four saves in her Trevecca debut, and Whitcomb (6-2-2) saved three Trevecca chances in earning the clean sheet for Lee.

UP NEXT

The Trojans return home next Saturday (Oct. 18) when they host the University of Montevallo (Ala.) (7-2-1, 6-0-1 GSC) with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m.
