NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (5-9, 2-1 GSC) fell to Gulf South Conference leading the (RV) University of Alabama-Huntsville (12-1, 3-0 GSC) in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers defeated the Trojans in three sets, winning, 25-19, 25-22, 26-24.
THE SERIES
The Chargers, who entered today riding a six-game winning streak, lead the all-time series 22-5 over the Trojans. UAH holds an 12-3 edge in the Div. II era.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans got off to a slower start than in recent games by allowing four consecutive attack errors to trail 7-5 early on. A 6-2 run from there gave Trevecca a two-point cushion which was eventually played to a 12-12 tie. Trevecca would not lead again in the first as UAH took the final four points of the opener to win, 25-19.
Trevecca jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the second set which the Chargers slowly chipped away at. After Trevecca built up a 16-11 advantage, the Chargers stormed back with eight points of their own to take a 18-16 lead. A lead the visitors did not relinquish, hanging on for a 25-22 win in the second.
In the third, UAH wasted little time shortening the match by jumping out to a 5-1 lead. The Trojans pulled within three on four different points and even made it a 21-19 game late off an
Elizabeth Wells kill but could not overcome the Chargers front line effort. A service ace ended things, 26-24 for UAH.
THE TEAM
The Trojans produced 35 kills on the day with a team hitting percentage of .158. Trevecca had 44 digs, 14 blocks and six service aces.
