OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Trevecca Nazarene University women's golf team played their round at a Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship. It was a good one and a historic one for Gabriela Mead. The 2024 G-MAC Championships were hosted at The Pearl Club. It is the eleventh G-MAC women's championship.
Gabriela Mead grabbed the spotlight with one of the three best single round scores in school history. The junior shot a 83-77-71=231 to finish sixth overall and made the Great Midwest All-Conference team.
But it was the third round one-under-par that really turned heads. It is tied for the third lowest score in school history. Additionally, there was only one other round at the G-MAC Championships lower than her round.
Mead had a par round earlier this year and now has two par-or-better rounds, tying her for second most in school history. Only Alexa Rippy, who had seven, has more. Rachael McMahan and Kaylon King also had two career par-or-better rounds.
Alexa Rippy holds the Trevecca record with a 69 in the first round at the Cumberland Phoenix Invite during the 2016-17 season and then she carded a 70 in the third round at the Perry Park Spring Fling during the 2015-16 season. Those are the only two single rounds better than the one-under-par effort by Mead today.
Her 54-hole total is not only a personal best, but the 231 is tied for the eighth best 54-hole total in school history.
Jodie Taylor also recorded one of the best 54-hole totals in school history, shooting a 79-78-77=234. It is tied for the 12th lowest round in program history. Her career best is a 231 shot at last year's Great Midwest Championships.
Trevecca moved up to fifth with a 332-321-310=963.
The 310 in the third round for the team matches their season low and is tied for the fifth lowest team round in school history.
The 968 for the 54-hole championship is the fifth lowest team score in school history.
