EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (10-4) finished up the Blue Bridge Battle splitting a doubleheader with No. 10 University of Indianapolis (9-2) and former Great Midwest member Davis & Elkins (6-5) on Saturday afternoon at the Deaconess Sports Park.
Trevecca falls to 12-2 all-time versus the Greyhounds and 19-3 versus the Senators.
BLUE BRIDGE BATTLE
The 20-team event is hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan in Evansville, Ind. at Deaconess Sports Park. There are nine Great Midwest teams participating along with seven GLVC teams and five other teams from four other conferences.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GM 1: UIndy 5, Trevecca 0
Trevecca managed just two hits against the nationally ranked No. 10 Greyhounds. UIndy pushed ahead in the third inning with four runs behind a two-run single and a two-run double. A triple in the fifth gave the visitors a 5-0 lead, which they held the rest of the way.
* Halle Grace Patton (2-2) took the loss by tossing three innings, allowing four runs and collecting four strikeouts.
GM 2: Trevecca 9, Davis & Elkins 3
After surrendering a three-run first inning, the Trojans bats went to work. After collecting a run in the third and the fourth, the Trojans headed to the top of the seventh down 3-2. A seven run seventh inning highlighted by four RBI singles, helped Trevecca to the eventually 9-3 win.
Annabelle Ellis hit an RBI double in the frame and
Kylie Chetakian stole home to account for the high scoring inning.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
* Ashlan Sensing (4-2) tossed five innings of relief work to earn the win allowing just two hits and collecting nine strikeouts.
NEXT ON THE SOFTBALL DIAMOND
The Trojans travel to Jackson, Tenn. on Tuesday, Feb. 27 to take on future Gulf South Conference foe Union University (11-4) in a doubleheader. Trevecca leads the series in the NCAA Division II era 9-5. The Trojans have won the last six in the series.
