Trevecca Men’s Basketball | Trojans Struggle in Second Half, Fall to Falcons

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University Men's Basketball team (5-3, 1-2 GSC) faced Montevallo University (6-3, 2-0 GSC) and fell short in a tough 71-89 loss in their third Gulf South Conference matchup of the season.

THE SERIES

This game marked the first-ever meeting between Trevecca and Montevallo in men's basketball.

BREAKING IT DOWN

The game began as a tightly contested affair, with neither team able to create significant separation in the first half.

Jalen Page provided an early spark for the Trojans, scoring their first eight points. Both teams traded buckets throughout the opening 20 minutes, with neither able to lead by more than five points.

Trevecca managed to close the first half with a slim three-point advantage, 38-35.

In the second half, Montevallo shifted gears and found their rhythm offensively. The Falcons shot an impressive 51.72% from the field (15-29) while dominating at the free-throw line, converting 90.48% (19-21) of their attempts.

Conversely, turnovers proved costly for Trevecca, as they committed 13 compared to Montevallo's 4, allowing the Falcons to capitalize on extra possessions.

Despite staying competitive for much of the game, Trevecca faltered in the closing minutes. Montevallo ended the game on a commanding 19-5 run over the final five minutes to secure an 89-71 victory.

KEY PLAYERS

Jalen Page led the Trojans with 23 points, shooting 8-21 from the field and 5-15 from beyond the arc, while adding 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Jikari Johnson: Added 10 points, with a perfect 7-7 shooting from the line, while contributing 3 assists and a block.
Spencer White shot well off the bench scoring 11 points with 3 made three pointers. He also added 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

THE TEAM

Trevecca struggled to match Montevallo's efficiency in the second half, particularly at the free-throw line and in turnover management. The Falcons' ability to convert turnovers into points, coupled with their dominant performance at the charity stripe, made the difference. Despite shooting 29.7% from three-point range (11-37) and a respectable 80% from the free-throw line, the Trojans could not overcome their late-game errors.

Montevallo, on the other hand, capitalized on their second-half opportunities, outscoring Trevecca 54-33 in the final period. The Falcons' balanced scoring and precision shooting sealed their victory in the final stretch.

UP NEXT

The Trojans are back at The Hill next Saturday as they host the University of West Alabama (5-3, 1-1 GSC) at 7:00 p.m.
