OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (1-3) dropped a road game at former conference foe Kentucky Wesleyan College (2-0), 71-58, in a hard-fought road matchup at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Saturday afternoon.
THE SERIES
Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan met for the 27th time, with the Panthers improving their all-time series advantage to 19-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca came out strong, taking a 14-11 lead at the end of the first quarter with early scoring contributions from Cheyenne Trotter. However, Kentucky Wesleyan responded with a dominant second quarter, outscoring the Trojans 18-11 to lead 29-25 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Trojans rallied to cut the deficit to a single point but couldn't sustain the momentum as KWC entered the final period up 46-43. The fourth quarter saw the Panthers take control, outscoring Trevecca 25-15 to secure the win.
TEAM STATS
Field Goals (FG) Trevecca shot 42.0% (21-50) compared to KWC's 39.1% (25-64).
Three-Point Shooting (3P) The Trojans hit 4-20 (20.0%) from beyond the arc, while KWC connected on 12-34 (35.3%).
Free Throws (FT) - Trevecca shot 75.0% (12-16) at the line, while KWC converted an impressive 90.0% (9-10).
Rebounds Trevecca dominated the glass with 40 rebounds (12 offensive, 28 defensive) compared to KWC's 28 (10 offensive, 18 defensive).
THE PLAYERS
Cheyenne Trotter produced a double-double, leading the Trojans with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Amaya Thomas recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
UP NEXT
The Trojans will regroup and prepare for their next game on November 23rd against former G-MAC opponent Thomas More University.
Note, the Lane College match up scheduled for Tuesday, November 19 at 1:00 PM is moved due to a Lane College scheduling issue. The game is now set for December 8, still at Trevecca, at 3:00 PM.
