Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Get First Sweep in GSC Play

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (7-9, 4-1 GSC) swept past the University of West Alabama (1-13, 0-5 GSC) in Pruitt Hall on Friday evening.

The Trojans defeated the Tigers in three sets, winning, 25-11, 28-26, 25-22.

THE SERIES
Before tonight, the Trojans had never beaten the Tigers, having last played in the 2002 season. West Alabama holds a 2-1 lead over Trevecca in the all-time series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca took the first point of the night but quickly found itself in a 4-2 hole. The Trojans dug out of the deficit with 6-0 run fueled by a pair of kills from Mackenzie O'Loughlin and Elizabeth Wells. The run sparked a UWA timeout. Leading 11-7, the Trojans sparked another run, this time a 9-0 spree which put the set out of hand for the Tigers. Trevecca took the opener, 25-11.

The second set began with a UWA service ace and the hosts very quickly looking at a 9-4 lead. Down five, the Trojans called for time and climbed back into the set by winning eight of the next 11 points. Tied at 12-12, neither side gained much of an upper hand until the Trojans finally closed off the set, 28-26 on a service ace.

Trevecca jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third and did not look back from there. The Trojans stretched their lead to 10-4 and after a 4-1 run by the Tigers had cut it to an 11-8 set, Trevecca pushed the set out of reach. Six straight points for the Trojans was interrupted by a UWA timeout before Trevecca cruised to a 25-22 win to close things out.

THE TEAM
The Trojans needed just 36 kills on the evening to earn the sweep with a team hitting percentage of .302. Trevecca had 43 digs with five service aces and seven blocks.

THE PLAYERS
Emma Titus led the way with a team-high nine kills on 21 total attacks with two digs and two blocks. Elizabeth Wells and Reese Payne both added seven kills each with Wells putting gup 12 digs. Skias Hainline produced 25 assists and 12 digs of her own.
