NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University cross country teams are headed to their first Gulf South Conference Championships this Saturday, October 26.
THE HELENE EFFECT
The GSC Cross Country Championships were originally set to take place at Freedom Park in Valdosta, Ga., but due to the impact of Hurricane Helene and the challenges facing the Valdosta community, the location for the 2024 GSC Championships moved to Clinton, Miss. where Mississippi College will host the meet at the Choctaw Trail Course.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Not only is this the first GSC Championship for Trevecca Cross Country, but this is also the first time a Trevecca team is competing for a GSC Postseason Championship.
MEN'S XC CHAMPIONSHIP | 8:30 AM CT
The men are up first and set to be tested over 8,000 meters at 8:30 AM CT
The Trevecca men were picked to finish ninth of the 11 teams in the league.

The Trojans have impressed this season, making it into the NCAA Division II Top 10 two different weeks.
The Trojans finished strong at the Trevecca Opener on September 7 at Vaughn's Gap. Freshman
Caleb Hinson finished ninth of 58. The men came in second at the Michael Pretorius Invitational.
Shane West came across the line seventh of 53.
Joshua Novotny earned the first Gulf South hardware for the Trojans with the GSC Freshman of the Week honors on October 2, 2024.
WOMEN'S XC CHAMPIONSHIP | 9:15 AM CT
This is the first time in GSC history for the women to compete over a 6,000 meter course. The women's race is set to go off at 9:15 AM CT.
The Trevecca women were ranked ninth, of 12 teams, in the preseason coaches poll.

The Purple and White have gained momentum over the season and in the last regular season NCAA Division II South Region poll, the team came in ranked eighth.
The Trojans opened the season finishing third at the Trevecca Opener and freshman
Remmy Arney came in tenth of 51 in her first collegiate event.
At the Rhodes Invite,
Ashley Alsvig was the fastest Trojan, coming in 20th of 172. Alsvig was the first Trojan across the line at the Michael Pretorius Invite, finishing sixth of 44. The team was third again at the Pretorius.

Two weeks later, the Trojans head to Huntsville for their first NCAA South Region Championship hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the Huntsville Sports Commission at the John Hunt Park.
