Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Take a Set Off GSC-Leading (RV) West Florida

NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (8-13, 5-5 GSC) fell to GSC-leading University of West Florida (15-5, 10-0 GSC) in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

The Argonauts knocked off the Trojans in four sets, winning, 25-12, 21-25, 25-16, 25-17.

THE SERIES
Trevecca and UWF met for the first time in volleyball.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Serving first, the Trojans got off to a solid start, with a 3-2 lead. From there, though, the Argonauts flexed off 11 of the next 13 points and quickly had the first set under control at 13-5. Both sides traded points until UWF, leading 16-8, used a 5-0 run to put things out of reach. The visitors went on to win the opener, 25-12.

UWF held an early 5-3 lead in the second before a 10-1 Trevecca run tipped things the Trojans' way. With Trevecca protecting a 13-6 advantage, the Argonauts rattled off three straight points to make it a four-point game. The Trojans soared to a 21-12 lead with four consecutive points before a 9-2 UWF run trimmed things to 23-21 forcing a Trevecca timeout. Emma Titus came up huge with two kills out of the break to earn the 25-21 win.

The Trojans came into the third with some assured confidence but did not lead in the early stages. In fact, there were five ties until the 9-9 tie was broken with back-to-back points from the Argonauts. The sides played evenly at 12, 14 and 15 before the Trojans took their first and only lead of the set at 16-15. UWF took the final 10 points to earn the 25-16 win for the Argonauts.

The fourth was the closet set of the day early on. Neither side led by more than three as the Trojans held advantages of 9-6, 10-7, and 11-8. UWF produced a 6-1 run to take a 14-12 lead and force a TNU timeout. Out of the break, UWF took two quick points before Skias Hainline's kill ended the run for the Argonauts. Down the stretch, the Argonauts outscored the Trojans 9-5 to hang on for the four-set win, 25-17. UWF had only lost three conference matches since the 2017 season entering today with a 94-3 record during that span and improved to 10-0 on the season with the win.

THE TEAM
Trevecca put together a .169 attacking percentage with four service aces, 40 assists, and 49 digs. Trevecca led in blocks, 14-12 and had one fewer reception error.
