NASHVILLE - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (3-7, 0-1) its Great Midwest opener to visiting Ohio Dominican University (4-3, 1-0), 26-24, 25-18, 22-25, 19-25, 12-15 at Trojan Fieldhouse on Thursday.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca got off to a 5-1 start in the first set, but the visitors turned the table to take a 7-6 lead. The set remained tight for a while at that point, but ODU built a six point lead (18-12) and looked to be in control. The first officials challenge in school history came at that point and the Trojans challenge of the official's call was overturned, giving the Trojans the point and the serve. It started a rally that led the Trojans pulling to within one (20-19) with a 7-2 run. Another official's challenge, this time by ODU, was upheld in the Trojans favor. Trevecca tied the match, 23-23, but Tiffin got a side out and served at set point. Trevecca got a side out, pushing the match to extra points where the Trojans won 26-24.
 
Trevecca opened the second set with a 5-2 lead, but Tiffin tied the match 6-6. Trevecca built a nine-point advantage several times, first at 19-10 on a 13-4 run. Trevecca held off a Panther rally for a 25-18 win.
 
The third set was tight early, but with the match tied 21-21, Ohio Dominican pulled away, outscoring the Trojans 4-1 to the finish.  
 
Trevecca led 7-2 in the fourth, but ODU went on a 20-9 run for a 22-16 advantage. Trevecca couldn't close the gap and the Panthers won 25-19, forcing a fifth set.
 
Trevecca opened a 4-1 lead, but ODU again rallied, taking a 10-6 lead with a 9-2 run. They held off the Trojans for the reverse sweep with a 15-12 win.

TEAM REPORT
There were 28 total ties in the match and 12 lead changes. Trevecca hit .419 (14-1-31) in the first set and .229 (15-4-48) in the second, but hit .148, .179, and .100 in the last three sets. For the match, Trevecca outhit the Panthers .224 to .212. ODU had 10 services aces to Trevecca's four.  
 
TROJAN PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS
The loss spoiled several individual highlights. Emma Titus hit .279 with 27 kills. She added a service ace and 10 digs for the double-double. She also had five blocks. Cara Maguire also had a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs. Katie Crutchfield had a team-high 16 digs. Emilee McDonald had 51 assists with four kills and 12 digs. Mackenzie O'Loughlin had eight blocks with three kills.
