Trevecca Men's Basketball | Findlay Tops Trojans In Close Finish

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (2-21, 1-16 Great Midwest) hosted the University of Findlay (13-10, 8-7 Great Midwest) on Thursday night and fell 72-66.

THE SERIES

The Oilers lead the all-time series 15-0. The first meeting came during the 2016-2017 season when the Oilers moved to the Great Midwest.

THE FLOW

The first half started slowly as both teams traded baskets and the lead for the first 12 minutes of the game. Then the Trojans took control with four three-pointers, two by Lawrence Brazil III, to go up 27-21 with 4:49 left in the half. They would lead by as much as 10 following an 8-2 run as time ran down and went into halftime up 37-28.

Findlay chipped away at the Trojan lead as they got within 39-35 with 17:30 left in the game. The Trojans responded with nine straight points, which included a pair of threes by Lawrence Brazil III to extend their lead to 48-35 with 14:41 remaining. The Oilers wouldn't go away as they took the lead following a big run with just under eight minutes to play. The teams traded the lead as the clock ran down. Then after being tied 64-64 with 1:13 on the clock, the Oilers regained the advantage and ran out the clock.

THE PLAYERS

Lawrence Brazil III led the Trojans with a career-high 19 points and three rebounds. Jose Waring had 16 points and nine rebounds. Jaden Smallwood added eight points.

THE TEAMS

The Trojans shot 41.7% (20-48) from the floor, 42.9% (9-21) from three-point range, and 73.9% (17-23) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Findlay 39-26.

UP NEXT

The Trojans host Tiffin University (9-13, 6-8 Great Midwest) on Saturday at 3:00 PM for Senior Day on the Hill. Tiffin has the lead in the all-time series 6-3. Tiffin has won the last three meetings against the Trojans, including a 73-50 meeting on January 12 earlier this season in Ohio.
