Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (2-19, 1-14 Great Midwest) hosted Ohio Dominican University (7-14, 3-11 Great Midwest) on Saturday afternoon and won 51-44.
THE SERIES
Ohio Dominican has the edge in the all-time series 7-5. The Panthers had won the last three meetings, including the earlier meeting this season on December 31, by the score of 74-57. This win snaps a three-game Panther win streak in the series.
THE FLOW
The first half was very low scoring as both teams struggled to put the basket through the rim. Ohio Dominican had the upper hand early and built a nine-point (17-9) lead. The Trojans responded with an 8-2 and trailed by two (19-17) with 1:57 remaining. The Panthers maintained that margin at the half, leading 21-19 despite eight Caleb Terry points and a Josh Goings three.
ODU opened the second half with an 11-4 run and held a 30-21 lead with 16:31 remaining. The Trojans took a 32-30 lead with 13:24 left with an 11-0 run that included a trio of threes, two of which were from Lawrence Brazil III. The lead was short-lived, however, as Ohio Dominican fought right back to retake the lead. With 4:12 remaining, the Panthers led by four (44-40). The Trojans heated up as time was running short, and the Trojans closed the game with a second 11-0 run for a 51-44 victory. Trevecca regained the lead (45-44) with 2:37 left on a Jake Mulder basket off a turnover.
THE PLAYERS
Caleb Terry led the Trojans with 13 points and seven rebounds. Lawrence Brazil III had nine points and six rebounds. Jake Mulder added 10 points.
THE TEAMS
The Trojans shot 28.1% (16-57) from the floor, 20.0% (6-30) from three-point range, and 56.5% (13-23) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Ohio Dominican 45-39.
UP NEXT
The Trojans jump right back into action hosting Cedarville University (16-6, 9-5 G-MAC). The Yellow Jackets are in fourth in the league standings. Cedarville leads the series 17-7. CU won the last meeting, Feb. 5, 2022. Trevecca'a last win came on New Year's Day in 2022. That win broke a nine-game winning streak for the Yellow Jackets in the series. On Thursday (Feb. 6) the University of Findlay (12-10, 7-7 Great Midwest) visits for a 7:30 PM tilt. The Oilers lead the all-time series 14-0. The first meeting came during the 2016-2017 season when the Oilers moved to the Great Midwest. TICKETS
The final game of the five-game home stand sees Tiffin University (9-13, 6-8 G-MAC) visiting for a 3:00 PM game on Saturday, February 11. The Dragons lead the all-time series 5-3 including the last three. They defeated the Trojans, 73-50, earlier this year in Tiffin, Ohio on Jan. 12. TICKETS
Trevecca's last road game is at nearby Kentucky Wesleyan College (11-11, 7-7 G-MAC) in Owensboro, Kentucky. That game starts at 7:45 PM in the Owensboro Sports Center. The Panthers own a 16-3 advantage in the series. KWC has won 12 of the last 13 meetings. Including this season's first meeting, 65-57, in Trojan Fieldhouse on Jan. 31.
The last regular season game is set for Trojan Fieldhouse when Ashland University (15-7, 11-4 Great Midwest) visits on Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 PM. The Eagles lead the series 3-0. Ashland swept the season series last year and the first meeting this season was on December 19 in Ashland, Ohio. The Eagles won 82-42. TICKETS
