Trevecca Men's Basketball | Trojans Hot Start to be Tested by CBU Tuesday

NASHVILLE - The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball (5-2, 2-0 Great Midwest) team is off to one of its best starts in recent memory and host former and future conference foe Christian Brothers University at the Trojan Fieldhouse on Tuesday, December 5 at 7:00 PM. Get Tickets and wear your best Christmas Outfit for this last game before Finals.

Both teams feature four players averaging in double figures with the Trojans featuring Jalen Page who has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference player of the week two weeks in a row.

The scoring of both squads was on full display when the Bucs won a thrilling three-overtime game, 110-109, in Memphis at Canale Arena on Nov. 18.

Jalen Page, the Lee University transfer, is a big piece of the turnaround for first-year head coach Kevin Carroll. The Trojans had the lowest scoring average in all of NCAA Division II last year, 55.7 points per game, but are averaging 90.6 points per game through seven games this season, ranking 18th in D2 this season.

The 5-2 overall record for Trevecca is the best for a Trojan squad since 2011-12, the transition year from the NAIA to NCAA Division II.

The last time the Trojans started 2-0 in the Great Midwest was during the 2016-17 season when they opened with an overtime win over Cedarville and a win over Ohio Valley University.

The Trojans have turned the corner on two series already this year. They defeated Findlay, 96-90, to open G-MAC play. It is Trevecca's first win over Findlay, the Oilers had won the first 15 meetings.

Trevecca beat Northwood, 103-71, to go to 2-0 in the G-MAC. It was Trevecca's first win over the Timberwolves in the three all-time meetings.

The Trojans set two records in the win over NU. First, they set an all-time (NAIA/NCAA) record with 19 made three-pointers against Northwood. They set an NCAA D2 Era record with a 67.9% three-point percentage against the Timberwolves. The Trojans were 19-of-28 from beyond the three-point arc. Breaking a record held by the 2018-19 team, that squad hit 18 in a game twice. Once against Tiffin and once against Davis & Elkins.

The team just missed another NCAA Era record against the Wolves with 24 assists. The record is 25.

Over the last four games Jalen Page is averaging 26 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 55% (31-56) from the field, 55% (15-27) from three, and 93% (27-29) from the foul line. He has two 31 point games already this year.

Trevecca has broken the century mark twice this season, the last time a Trevecca has eclipsed the century mark before this season was a 117-94 win over Ohio Valley University more than five years ago on December 7, 2013, the second year in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

It is the 60th meeting between the Bucs and Trojans in men's basketball. A series that started in 1977 when both were in the NAIA and in the Volunteer State Athletic Conference. Now, both in the NCAA Division II ranks, next year they'll be conference members again as the Trojans move to the Gulf South Conference where the Bucs have resided for a number of years. The Trojans had the edge in the NAIA Era with a 27-24 edge, but the Bucs have an 8-1 edge during the D2 Era.

The three-overtime game against CBU is the first time the Trojans have gone past regulation since 2018 when they played back-to-back overtime games against Ohio Dominican (2/01/18) and Cedarville (2/03/18). Both losses by the Trojans. The Trojans didn't wait that long to go to overtime again, beating Shorter 84-80 in overtime three nights later, Nov. 21 in Rome, Ga.

Trevecca hosts future conference foe Christian Brothers University on Tuesday  at 7:00 PM at Trojan Fieldhouse, get tickets here.
