NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (5-4, 2-1 G-MAC) won a exciting non-conference game against Saginaw Valley State University (3-7,0-2 GLIAC),74-63, on Saturday afternoon in Trojan Fieldhouse.
The game is the first for SVSU and TNU in women's basketball history.
BREAKING IT DOWN
A 5-2 start for the Cardinals gave them the early lead in what proved to be a tight game throughout. Trevecca answered with a 5-0 run to take a 7-5 lead at the 6:44 mark of the first quarter. The Cardinal led 14-13 and the Trojans answered with another 5-0 run to take a four-point lead (18-14) with 1:28 left in the half. Saginaw closed the quarter on a 8-4 run to tie the game at 22-22.
With 4:19 to go in the half and Trevecca leading 33-29, the Cardinals used went on a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the game, 36-33, with 1:53 to go in the half. Trevecca closed the half on another 5-0 run, taking a 38-36 lead into the locker room.
Trevecca continued the run into the third quarter, building an eight-point lead (44-36) with 8:04 to go in the frame. The Trojan run, spanning the second and third quarters, was 11-0. The visitors where not finished. They went on a 15-6 run to take a 51-50 advantage with 1:56 to go in the third. The teams were tied through three quarters, 55-55.
The fourth was slow for both teams, but the Cardinals got hot first when Emma Dziezgowski drained a three with 8:06 on the clock to put the Cardinals ahead again (58-55). With 6:27n remaining and SVSU leading by three (61-58), the Trojans rallied and pulled away, outscoring the visitors 16-2 down the stretch for the 11-point win (74-63).
KEY PLAYERS
Four Trojans reached double figures with
Keeley Carter leading the way with 19. Konner Gambrell scored 16 and added eight rebounds.
Kor Fornesa Liu also just missed another double-double with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Lili Wilken scored 15. Carter added six rebounds and two blocks. Wilken had five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
TEAM TIME
Trevecca had a 36-28 rebound edge while also having a 20-5 edge in fast break scoring. The teams were tied 22-22 in the first, then each team had a two-point edge one of the next two quarters for a 55-55 tie through three. The Trojans broke through for a 19-8 edge in the fourth.

Trevecca visits Kentucky State University (8-1) in Frankfort, Ky. on Saturday, December 30 at 3:00 PM to restart play post-Christmas. The current No. 1 Ashland University Eagles visit for a Great Midwest game at 5:30 PM. The Eagles are the reigning National Champions and had won 45 in a row prior to losing at home today to No. 10 Ferris State. The Eagles road win streak is still intact at 34 in a row.
