Trevecca Women's Basketball | Trojans Spoil Govs F&M Bank Arena Debut, 75-59

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team moved to 2-0 in exhibition games with a 75-59 win on the road at NCAA Division I Austin Peay State University of the ASUN league.  It is the first-ever regular-season game played on Gary Mathews Court at the new F&M Bank Arena in downtown Clarksville. 
Because the game counted as an exhibition game for Trevecca, the game and statistics do not count towards the official team record or individual statistics or records. 
The Govs are picked fourth in the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll. Trevecca is picked third in the Great Midwest Preseason Coaches Poll. 
Keeley Carter scored 37 points in the game, which is two more than the official record held by Trevecca Hall of Famer and four-time All-American Jennifer Wilson. Wilson scored 35 in a game against Lipscomb during the 2000-2001 season.  
Trevecca hosts the 2023 Jack "Pops" Duncan Classic this weekend to tipoff the regular season schedule. The Trojans take on Southwest Baptist University on Friday at 7:00 PM and Drury University on Saturday at 6:00 PM. 
BREAKING IT DOWN
Trevecca opened the game on a 9-0 run and didn't allow a Gov point until the home team sank a free throw with 5:00 to go in the quarter. The Govs tied the game at 11-11 with 1:53 to go in the quarter and the quarter ended with the teams tied 13-13. 
The Govs looked to be on the verge of taking control of the game hitting a three to open the second quarter, taking their first lead at 16-13. It capped a 15-4 APSU run. The Trojans responded. Scoring five straight to regain the lead at 18-16 with 6:22 left in the quarter. The Trojans never trailed again. APSU did time the game at 18-18, but Lili Wilken hit a three to put the Trojans up again, a lead they did not relinquish the rest of the game. Trevecca outscored the hosts in their brand-new arena 21-4 over the final 9:19 of the second quarter and led 34-20 at the half. 
The Govs scored the first five points out of half, cutting the Trojan lead to nine (34-25) with 8:23 left in the quarter. Trevecca didn't let the Govs closer than nine points the rest of the way, eventually building an 18-point lead (62-44) with 5:53 left in the fourth quarter. 
The Govs cut the Trojan lead to nine a couple of more times, but never closer and TNU pulled ahead again by 16 for the final margin. 
KEY PLAYERS
Keeley Carter led Trevecca with 37 points hitting 9-13 from the field and 19-20 at the foul line. Lili Wilken added 16 points on 4-8 shooting from three-point range. Kor Fornesa Liu led the team with seven rebounds and Carter added six. 
TEAM TIME
The Trojan win breaks a six-game win streak for the Govs in home season openers. The game was counted as a regular season game for APSU, but an exhibition for TNU. 
Trevecca shot 44.7% (21-47) from the field, 41.2% (7-17) from three-point range, and 81.3% (26-32) from the foul line. Trevecca outrebounded Austin Peay 33-31. Trevecca outscored APSU 21-7 in the second quarter and by one point in the both the third and fourth quarters. Trevecca led for 35:09 of game time. 
UP NEXT
Trevecca faces two Great Lakes Valley Conference teams in the 2023 Jack "Pops" Duncan Classic (Midwest Region Crossover) on Nov. 10-11, 2023 at the Trojan Fieldhouse. On Friday, Southwest Baptist University visits at 7:00 PM. On Saturday, Trevecca plays Drury University at 6:00 PM to close out the Classic. Kentucky Wesleyan is the other Great Midwest team in the region crossover. 
In the 2023-24 GLVC Preseason Coaches Poll, Southwest is picked twelfth and Drury is second with four first place votes. Drury is receiving votes in the 2023-24 WBCA Preseason Poll.
