Trevecca Men’s Basketball | Trojans Earn First Ever Win over Findlay in Great Midwest Opener

Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (4-2, 1-0 Great Midwest) began Great Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 96-90 win over the University of Findlay (1-4, 0-1 Great Midwest) on Tuesday night in Trojan Fieldhouse.  
BREAKING IT DOWN    The Trojans came into Trojan Fieldhouse ready, as they hit their first three shots to open a 7-2 lead. The Oilers sliced into the Trojan advantage after the first media timeout, cutting it to a one possession game at 7-5 with 15:48 to play. Trevecca responded with the next six points before Findlay once again made it a two-point game behind consecutive 3-pointers. Beginning with Tommy Gankhuyag's jumper at 12:43, Trevecca used a 17-0 run to open up the half and take a commanding 30-11 advantage. The scoring stretch lasted just over five minutes and included baskets from five different Trojans. Gankhuyag and Jalen Page led the way with 10 points in the first half for Trevecca who led 37-27 at the break.
 
The second half saw the Trojans play with not only the momentum on their side, but with confidence as well. Gankhuyag scored the Trojans' first six points of the half as Trevecca opened up as much a 13-point lead after Lawrence Brazil III connected for a 3-pointer at the 10:07 mark. From there, Findlay used a 7-2 run to cut the Trojan lead to 69-61 with 8:05 to play. Findlay continued to rely on its 3-point shooting to close the gap to a 76-69 game at the under four media timeout. Out of the stoppage, Trevecca scored the next five points to put the game out of reach and held on for the 96-90 win, the Trojans first ever in 16 meetings with the Oilers.
 
KEY PLAYERS   
Jalen Page scored a game-high 25 points for the Trojans while Tommy Gankhuyag neared 20 with an 18-point effort and 14 rebounds. Page finished with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals to complement his night.
TEAM TIME   
Trevecca shot 51% (32-62) from the field, 37% (10-27) from distance, and 84% (22-26) at the foul line. The Trojans collected 20 more rebounds than the Oilers, 46-26. Both sides were even in assists with 18 while the Trojans doubled the Oilers 40-20 in points in the paint.
 
UP NEXT   
The Trojans challenge Northwood University (2-4, 0-0 Great Midwest) on Saturday, December 2 (1:00 PM) for their first Great Midwest road game before hosting Christian Brothers University (1-1) for a special Christmas and Finals celebration at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 2.
