Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (9-6, 5-3 Great Midwest) hosted Walsh University (5-9, 3-4 Great Midwest) on Saturday afternoon and won 67-60. Emma Palmer recorded a career-high 24 points, her fifth career 20+ point game.
THE SERIES
The tenth all-time meeting went to the Trojans, breaking a six-game win streak for the Cavaliers in the series.
THE FLOW
Lili Wilken made the first buckets to give the Trojans a 5-4 lead early. Then Walsh took the lead back as both teams traded buckets, with neither able to pull away from the other. Keeley Carter hit a pair of free throws to pull the Trojans within 19-18 as the first quarter ended. Then in the second quarter, the Trojans went on a 12-0 run led by eight points from Emma Palmer to take a 30-21 lead with 5:13 left in the half. Walsh chipped away at their deficit as time ran down, but the Trojans went into half up 34-31.
The lead changed hands many times in the third quarter, but the Trojans pulled away late with a 7-0 run punctuated by a Keeley Carter three to go up 52-47 with 1:15 left in the quarter. However, Walsh tied the game at 52-52 as the quarter ran out. Walsh pulled ahead in the early part of the fourth quarter. However, the Trojans fought back and took the lead late on an 8-0 run to make it 64-60 with 1:56 remaining. The Trojan defense slammed the door shut as they went on to win.
THE PLAYERS
Emma Palmer led the Trojans with a career-high 24 points and a season-high 14 rebounds for the double-double. Keeley Carter had 17 points and four rebounds. Lili Wilken added seven points.
THE TEAMS
The Trojans shot 43.3% (26-60) from the floor, 18.8% (3-16) from three-point range, and 66.7% (12-18) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Walsh 43-29.
