NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (15-7, 11-4 Great Midwest) hosted Kentucky Wesleyan College (16-5, 12-2 Great Midwest) on Tuesday night and won 63-55. With 13 points tonight, Keeley Carter has now surpassed 1,000 career points as a Trojan. 

THE SERIES

The Panthers lead the series 16-6, and the Trojans snap a Panther's 12-game win streak. Trevecca last beat KWC, 54-49, on January 25, 2016.  

THE FLOW

Keeley Carter led the Trojans out of the gates with five points en route to an early 7-2 lead. The Panthers responded and cut their deficit to 13-12, but the Trojans ended the first quarter by scoring five straight to gain their lead back. Faith Wilken extended the lead to nine off a three to begin the second quarter. Kentucky Wesleyan fought to get close and got within 26-21 with 2:43 left in the half. But Kor Fornesa Liu scored four straight points for the Trojans as they went into halftime up 30-24.

After trading a few buckets to start the second half, Trevecca continued their strong play as they extended their lead to 43-29 with 3:19 left in the third quarter, following a 13-3 run highlighted by threes by Julie Luna and Faith Wilken. The Trojans scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 53-33 with 4:55 left, and four points were from Emma Palmer. The Panthers attempted to rally, but the Trojan's lead was too much to overcome.

THE PLAYERS

Emma Palmer led the Trojans with 16 points and seven rebounds. Keeley Carter had 13 points and five rebounds. Faith Wilken added 11 points and nine rebounds.

THE TEAMS

The Trojans shot 41.8% (23-55) from the floor, 27.8% (5-18) from three-point range, and 76.9% (10-13) from the free-throw line. The Trojans outrebounded Kentucky Wesleyan 42-33.

UP NEXT 

The Trojans host Ohio Dominican (6-13, 3-9 Great Midwest) on Saturday at 1:00 PM. The Panthers have the advantage in the all-time series, 7-2. The Panthers won the last meeting 75-65 in Columbus on February 4, 2022, which snapped a two-game Trojan win streak.
