Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-19, 0-14 Great Midwest) hosted Kentucky Wesleyan College (10-11, 6-7 Great Midwest) on Tuesday night and fell 65-57.
THE SERIES
The Panthers own a 16-3 advantage in the series. KWC has won 12 of the last 13. Including the previous meeting in Owensboro, 70-50, on February 19, 2022.
THE FLOW
The first 10 minutes of the game was back-and-forth action, with both teams trading the lead. Then after being behind 14-13, Josh Goings made back-to-back three-pointers to give the Trojans a 19-14 lead with 10:42 left in the half. However, Kentucky Wesleyan responded with a 12-1 run to take a six-point lead over the Trojans. Trevecca responded in kind with 11 straight points of their own, six points by Gus Davenport and five by Jose Waring to make it 31-26 with 3:21 left in the first half. The Panthers tied it at 33-33, but the Trojans scored eight straight to go into halftime up 41-33.
The Panthers closed the gap on the Trojans and got within 44-42 with 13:51 remaining in the second half. The teams traded buckets, with the Trojans maintaining a slight lead until the Panthers took a 51-50 lead with 8:03 left in the game. They would go up by five points before the Trojans fought back to retie the game with five straight points from Josh Goings. The Panthers would take the advantage and the lead and would hold on to win.
THE PLAYERS
Josh Goings led the Trojans with 19 points and six assists. Jose Waring had 13 points and eight rebounds. Gus Davenport added seven points and six rebounds.
THE TEAMS
The Trojans shot 33.3% (20-60) from the floor, 36% (9-25) from three-point range, and 72.7% (8-11) from the free-throw line.
UP NEXT
The Trojans host Ohio Dominican (7-12, 3-9 Great Midwest) on Saturday at 3:00 PM. Ohio Dominican has the edge in the all-time series 7-4. The Panthers won the last three meetings. The last Trojan win was a 59-55 win in Columbus on February 15, 2021.
